Heads should roll - Scandal??

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2014/10/25/report-west-point-recruited-football-players-with-booze-women/17910497/[/URL]

I hope this attached properly, but this article from USA Today (and put out first by the Gazette from Colorado Springs) gives some info on recruiting violations involving alcohol, dates with female cadets and other items.

This is VERY disappointing. Even if we have sucked at football we could look at other academies and other schools and say we are not like them. Now it looks like we are and we still suck at football.

Players involved should be kicked off the team, coaches involved fired and any officers involved reassigned to Greenland.

This may be the last straw for me.

Opponents Week #9

Buffalo (3-5) lost to Central Michigan (5-4) 20-14. Central Michigan scored the first 14 points, but Buffalo answered with a TD pass by Joe Licata at the end of the first half and then tied the game early in the second half on a second TD pass by Licata, but Central Michigan scored a 3d TD midway through the final quarter and failed on the PAT attempt. Passing yardage ws about equal for both teams but Central Michigan had a 110 yards rushing to Buffalos 38.

Stanford (5-3) downed Oregon State (4-3) 38-14. The Cardinal offense had its best outing of the year scoring 2 TDs in both the 1st and 2d quarters to take a 28-7 lead, and added a 5th TD in the 3d quarter before allowing Oregon State its second TD of the game in the final quarter.

Wake Forest (2-6) lost to Boston College (5-3) 17-23. Wake launched a 4th quarter 14 point rally but gave up 6 points to BC in the final quarter, which was enough for BC to hold onto their early 17 point lead.

Yale (5-1) downed Ivy rival Penn (1-5) 43-21. Yale compiled another 600+ yards of total offense led by Morgan Roberts 346 yards passing on 26 completions in 29 attempts and Tyler Varga's 140 yards rushing. Yale jumped out to an early 15-0 lead and never let Penn get back in the ballgame. Yale is currently in third place in the Ivy League behind Harvard and Dartmouth.

Ball State (3-5) knocked off Akron (4-4) 35-21 for their second straight win after snapping their 5 game losing streak with the win against Central Michigan last week. Ball State spotted Akron to an early 15 point lead but scored 29 unanswered points led by a record setting 5 FG performance by Scott Secor.

Rice (4-3) won its fourth consecutive game, downing North Texas (2-6) by a score of 42-21 at home. The Rice defense got one score on a pick six and outscored NTU 27-0 in the second half for the win.

UConn (1-6) stayed with #18 East Carolina (6-1) for three quarters but ECU scored 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to hand UConn its 6th loss of the season 21-31.

Western Kentucky (3-4) beat Old Dominion (3-5) 66-51 in another barn burner at Bowling Green. Brandon Dougherty completed 23 od 26 passes or 371 yards and 5 TDs to lead the Hilltopper offense, and as usual the Hilltopper defense failed to make an appearance as WKU gave up 643 yards of total offense as ODU out gained but failed to outscore the Hilltoppers.

Fordham (6-1) built a 21 point lead and held on to defeat Lehigh (1-6) 48-27 to remain on top in the Patriot League standings with a perfect 3-0 record. Fordham showed its offensive balance with 296 yards rushing and 292 passing, while holding Lehigh to 317 yards of total offense.

Navy (4-4) beat San Jose State (3-4) 31-21, led by the 251 yards rushing and 3 TDs of Keenan Reynolds, who looked fully recovered from an earlier season knee injury. Reynolds carried the ball 39 times for an impressive 6.4 yard average and Noah Copeland added another 70 yards as the Mids accumulated 433 rushing yards. The Navy defense allowed 322 yards passing and 100 yards rushing.

Maples and Baggett

WHERE ARE MAPLES AND BAGGETT???

Did this staff forget the 2 studs they have (not including Dixon) in the backfield? If you want to win some games, give the ball to your horses. I hate the excuse that the cupboard is bare...there are 3 studs left in the backfield and if there was any sort of play calling, we could have 3-1,000 yard rushers this year. The talent is there on offense. Not giving the ball to them is the coaches fault. Granted the QB will read the defense, but if they key on Dixon, then there are other options. It is mind boggling to me how all this talent will go to waste and next year, with everyone graduating, there will be no one in the backfield. The offense has regressed and not because of talent. Next year and probably in the next 10 years, Army will not have this talent running the ball. Against a joke of a Kent St team, Baggett gets 2 carries and Maples 3. Maples didn't even play against Rice. What is the deal??

Oboat- Aleclee- Beatnavy

Where are you guys ? At this point I would love to hear your take on all this. I'm trying my darnest to comprehend what the hell's going on. We played better then this with teams, that out matched us 10 to 1. Out of my 6yrs being here, we never looked this bad, even on our worse day. Now we're playing weaker teams and still can't get a freaking win.... YOU GOT TO BE KICKING ME! Where's all those posters from last season that was screaming for a new coaching staff?

GBK: Official Army-Kent State Game Day Thread

Opponents Week #7

Buffalo (3-4) lost at Eastern Michigan (2-4) 27-37. Buffalon had 537 yards of total offense but was unproductive in the red zone scoring only 1 TD and 2 FGs in 6 trips.

Stanford (4-2) beat Washington State (2-5) 34-17. Stanford jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back outscoring WSU in every quarter.

Wake Forest (2-4) had a bye

Yale (3-1) was edged by Dartmouth (3-1) 31-38. Yale scored first and led most of the game holding a 31-28 lead at the start of the 4th quarter, but Dartmouth tied it up at 31 all and then scored a TD with 2:20 left in the game for the win.

Kent State (0-6) was beaten by UMass (1-6) 17-40. Kent got on the scoreboard first with a FG, and led 10-7 after exchanging TDs, but UMass scored 17 unanswered points to take a 24-10 lead at half and outscored KSU 13-0 in the final quarter.

AFA (4-1) fumbled the game to Utah State (4-2) at Logan 13-34. Utah State struck quickly with a 75 yard passing TD on their first play from scrimmage and added a second after AFA fumbled the ball away on their own 43 on their first possession and Utah had an early 14-0 lead. AFA threatened to score on their second possession, but USU knocked the ball out of Pearson's hands on the 2 yard line and the ball rolled out of the end zone for a touchback. After USU was forced to punt, AFA got on the scoreboard with a 37 yard FG to make it 14-3. USU was forced to punt on their next possession, and Brown recovered his own fumble to keep possession. AFA drove to the USU 24, where Brown appeared to have fumbled again, but the fumble was overturned on review and AFA got its second FG of the game to close to 14-6. After a USU three and out, Pearson threw his first INT of the season, but the Aggies were unable to capitalize and USU was forced to punt. Romine came into the game for Pearson and was unable to move the ball; so USU got it back on their own 40 and drove for a TD to make it 21-6. Romine threw the second AFA INT on their next possession, but this time USU turned it into a FG to make the score 24-6. USU scored another TD before the half to make it 31-6. AFA got the opening kickoff in the second half but had to punt it away, and then AFA stopped USU on a 4th down to get the ball back on their own 40. Pearson returned to the game and led the team on its only TD drive of the game to close the gap to 31-13 at the end of the third quarter. AFA blocked a punt attempt to start the 4th quarter but had to settle for a FG. USU took the next possession to the AFA 17 but missed the FG attempt. USU got one more FG to end the scoring. AFA entered the game with a plus 7 in turnover margin, all from the Boise State game, and left Logan with a plus 3.

UConn (1-5) lost to Tulane (2-4) 3-12, in a display of impoverished offenses by both teams. Tulane recovered 2 UConn fumbles and picked off a pass to win the turnover battle. Tulane scored a TD, a FG and a Safety, while holding UConn to a single FG. UConn was held to 76 yards rushing and 141 passing while Tulane mustered just 167 rushing and 135 passing.

WKU had a bye

Fordham (5-1) beat Penn (0-4) 60-22. Penn scored first and led 10-7 before Fordham took control of the game to take a 35-13 lead at the half and cruised to the win against winless Penn of the Ivy League.

Navy (3-4) routed hapless FCS opponent VMI (1-5) 51-14. Tago Smith took over for the injured Keenan Reynolds and VMI was unable to contain the Navy offense as Navy rolled to a 40-7 halftime lead and cruised from there. VMIs first TD came off a recovery of a Smith fumble in the end zone, and their second TD came in the waining minutes of the game. The Navy defense contributed 9 points on a pick 6 and a safety. Navy had 350 yards rushing and 432 yards of total offense. Prior to this game, VMI had given up an average of 43 points per game and 508 yards of total offense. VMI's only win this season was against Davidson. Navy had an INT to go with the fumble and lost the turnover battle 2-1 to go -5 for the year.

Some Optimistic Thoughts

The last two years we won only 2 and 3 games - The season is now only half finished and we have already won 2 games - We will bounce back with a good win on the road next week against a weak Kent State team and we will have 3 wins with 5 games left to play - The loss to Rice was painful but you can see and sense the Army team's enthusiasm and desire and they certainly did not give up in the 4th quarter - I believe our team will continue to improve each week with our new coaching staff - I believe we should be able to beat Connecticut for our 4th win - Fordham may well be harder to beat than UCONN or Kent State, but since we dropped the close one to Yale I think we will get the other 1AA win and beat Fordham which will be our 5th win - The remaining three will be very tough contests - WKU, Air Force, and Navy - but - if we can get lucky - we might be able to upset either Western Kentucky or Air Force - Both teams are better than us right now - But we might close the gap before we get to those two and a win in one of them gets us to the 6 win point before the Navy game - We seem to play better against Air Force and beat them two years ago so Air Force is probably our best hope of those two - But a win against either one would get us to six wins with Navy still to play so there is definitely reason to stay positive and hopeful for a successful transition season - GO ARMY - Beat Kent State!!! :)

GBK: Official Army-Rice Game Day Thread

Opponents Week #6

Buffalo (3-3) lost a seesaw battle to Bowling Green (4-2) 35-36. Buffalo scored first and then traded scores throughout the game, when Bowling Green, trailing 35-30 scored the final TD with 2 minutes left on the clock and missed the 2 point conversion attempt but held on for the home field win. Bowling Green accumulated 508 total yards to Buffalo's 368, but Buffalo won the turnover battle 3-1.

#14 Stanford (3-2) was edged out by #9 Notre Dame (5-0) 17-14 at South Bend. Neither offense was able to move the ball well in the adverse weather conditions at South Bend, but the Cardinal appeared to have the final edge when it scored a go ahead TD with 3 minutes left int the game to lead 14-10, but ND took the ball to the Stanford 23 assisted by a pass interference call, and on 4th and 11, Golson found Koyack for the winning TD with a minute left in the game.

Wake Forest (2-4) was demolished by #1 FSU 43-3. Wake scored first and a stout defense held FSU scoreless in the first quarter, but FSU came awake an scored 43 unanswered points to keep the Deacons winless in the ACC.

Rice (2-3) beat Hawaii (1-4) at home 28-14. The game was tied a 14 all going into the final quarter, but Rice scored 14 unanswered points to seal the victory. Darik Dillard rushed for 141 yards, but Rice finished with only 143 yards rushing as their dual threat quarterback Jackson was held for -26 in the game. Jackson was 10-23-1 passing for 248 yards and 2 TDs.

Kent State (0-5) dropped a close contest to NIU ( 3-2 ) 13-17 at DeKalb. Neither offense could sustain a drive in the first quarter, and NIU missed a 39 yard FG attempt. NIU switched quarterbacks at the start of the second quarter to try to get something going, and after an exchange of 15 yard penalties, NIU got the TD to go ahead 7-0 on the opening drive. Kent responded with a drive that reached the NIU 1 yard line, but had to settle for a FG to give NIU a 7-3 half time lead. NIU took the opening kickoff to the KSU 23, where they settled for a FG to increase their least to 10-3, and after forcing Kent into a 3 and out, NIU drove the field again to open up a 17-3 lead. Kent State kicked another FG to narrow the lead to 17-6 at the end of the third quarter. A pass interference call set up the final TD of the game by Kent State. KSU intercepted an NIU pass, but starting QB Colin Reardon injured a leg and had to leave the game. The backup QB was hammered on his second play and left the game as well, and KSU attempted was unable to move the ball and attempted a desperation 56 yard FG that barely made it to the end zone and NIU ran out the clock. Kent State is 0-5 but has lost some close encounters.

AFA (4-1) beat Navy (2-4) 33-24 in Colorado Springs to draw first blood in the CiC trophy race. Both teams exhibited the chippy behavior that often characterizes this annual contest and penalties and turnovers played a role in the game with Navy called for 5 penalties for 55 yards and AFA getting 6 for 65 yards and AFA winning the turnover battle 2-0. AFA was able to get to Reynolds most of the day and Reynolds was sacked 3 times and dropped for losses on a number of plays. Navy had the edge in rushing with 251 net yards led by their fullbacks Swain (103 yds) and Copeland (80). Reynolds gained 51 but lost 24 for a net of 27. Kale Pearson passed for 112 yards and 3 TDs to lead the AFA offense. Jocobi Owens contributed 78 yards rushing and Pearson was able to gain 61 without an offsetting loss as AFA got 198 yards on the ground. AFA has had some help from its opponents in the last two games but will face stiff competition against Utah State this weekend, while Navy takes on its annual FCS game against VMI this year.

UConn (1-4) had a bye this week and travels to New Orleans to face Tulane on Saturday.

WKU (2-3) lost to UAB (3-2) 39-42 in another barn burner in Bowling Green with little of no defense for either team. WKU had 503 yards of total offense but gave up 591 yards to UAB. Brandon Doughty who averaged 461.5 passing yards per game entering the contest, completed 25 of 37 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns for Western Kentucky. UAB outscored WKU 28-12 in the second half of the game.

Fordham (4-1) defeated Patriot League foe Holy Cross (2-3 Sagarin 232) 45-18 at home. The first quarter was scoreless, but Fordham scored 17 points in the 2d quarter before HC got on the scoreboard with a FG. HC scored first in the second half to close the gap to 17-9, but Fordham scored 3 straight TDs to take a commanding 38-9 lead. HC scored another TD in the final quarter to close the gap to 38-16 but Fordham scored again to end the game. Fordham is currently ranked 16th in the FCS.

Start Over

Monken just needs to start over. We are not going to a bowl game in spite of having one of the easiest schedules in FBS. (A little know NCAA rule says you cannot attend a bowl game unless you buy a ticket if you lose to an IVY league school.) ESPN said that this was the first time since 1986 that an IVY had beaten an FBS school! None of the other IVY schools even play an FBS school this year.

This game should never have been played at Yale. We had nothing to gain. No home gate, we are supposed to win, third road game in a row. Boo gets a nod on this one too. If they want to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Yale Bowl as I said before , Harvard would be appropriate.

I watched two teams that have no idea how to win Saturday - Army and the US Ryder Cup Team. Monken has a lot of work to change the overall attitude of winning. Gaining weight and better scheduling may help, but it will take more than that.

Our O-Line is a mess. We could not get short yardage on 3rd and short or 4th and short all day. Stanford I can understand. Yale? We also tend to play to our level of competition - just well enough to lose. We get no pressure on the QB and the secondary played well the first week, but has gotten worse. Stupid penalties have been noted in other posts.

It is too bad we have some good skill players that are seniors - we need to play them, but also some younger guys as we hopefully improve. Maybe we can build for the future and get our normal three wins. 13 in a row to Navy is a given based on what we have seen so far even though Navy does not look as good as the last couple of years.

Sucks to have to write off another season so early. Maybe we can get Brady Hoke as an assistant - he will be available soon.
