Army Football Will Be Featured On 60 Minutes Sports

WEST POINT, N.Y. -[/B] A feature on the Army football team will be included in Tuesday's episode of "60 Minutes Sports," which airs on Showtime at 10 p.m.

Jack Ford conducted interviews with Army football coach Jeff Monken, several players, West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen and Gen. Raymond Odierno, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, in support of the piece.

In addition to several rounds of interviews, Showtime was also present for summer training, football practice, weight lifting sessions and games.

The piece looks at the hiring of Monken and his steps to building the program as the team gets set to face service academy rival Navy in the Army-Navy Game presented by USAA on Dec. 13 in Baltimore, Md.

Looking at next year's schedule

2015 Army Football Schedule
Sept. 5 FORDHAM
Sept. 12 at Connecticut
Sept. 19 WAKE FOREST
Sept. 26 at Eastern Michigan
Oct. 3 at Penn State
Oct. 10 DUKE
Oct. 17 BUCKNELL
Oct. 24 at Rice
Nov. 7 at Air Force
Nov. 14 TULANE
Nov. 21 vs. Rutgers (at Yankee Stadium, Bronx, N.Y.)
Dec. 12 vs. Navy (Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pa.)

My view here from the cheap seats. If Monken (or Army football in general) is every going to wing 6-7 games consistently, it needs to start sooner or later. Here is how I view this schedule

Gotta win against these teams: Fordham, Uconn, Eastern MIchigan, Bucknell, Tulane.

Toss ups: Rice, Air Force, Navy, Wake Forest. Can we win 1 of these 4? If so, thats make Army bowl Eligible.

Not gonna win against these teams: Penn State. Rutgers. Duke.

I see 2015 as a very realistic, winnable type of schedule IF (and this is the big IF) Army is going to be a middle of the road kind of team. If we are going to stink up the joint, well then we could play the little sisters of the poor or LSU and its really not going to matter much

Army - Duke - Sunday at noon ESPNU

Can the 5-0 cagers continue their run to true respectability against Coach K and the Blue Devils ? Take the time to find out this weekend. This is shaping up as Army's best team in nearly 40 years. 20 wins and a potential visit to the NCAA's are definitely within reach. Coach Spiker has developed a program over his 5 seasons that has attracted significant attention in the Patriot League. That attention will most likely expand to a broader audience during the 2014-15 season. The team is young, experienced and quite deep. Expect to see 10-12 players secure playing time every night.

Coach Spiker will soon be a hot commodity among bigger programs very soon. If football developed as smoothly and successful as basketball has over these last 5 years, we'd be singing the praises of Coach Monken from the highest rafters. Enjoy Kyle Wilson, pre-season league MVP and the Black Knights curretly assembled at a TV near you. You will not be disappointed if you follow them throughout the season ( Currently 4 games scheduled for TV audiences on ESPN/ CBS Sports).

Boos At Michie

I have never heard boos at Michie form either side in 60+ years of Army football!

In fact, I have never heard boos against an Army Team even on the road.

Completely understand the Fordham fans' reaction to the play call.

Perhaps some reasons for the call:

o In JM's mind, the game was not over.
o A teaching moment on finishing. Finishing the play, finishing the game, etc. We have fallen short in 4th Quarters many times.
o Instilling a "killer instinct". "Roll that score way up. They will never want to play us anymore"
o Give Buddy Green something to think about on defending the Tight End

But, having taken a knee on the one yard line, wipes numbers 2 and 3 off, IMO.

Perhaps a better sequence would have been to take the knee. If Fordham called their final timeout then go for it.

Don't like the call. We still don't know how to win (with class).

GBK: Official Army-Fordham Game Day Thread

As previously mentioned, we will not have our weekly LIVE Blog/Chat up for this game.

So we welcome everyone to join in here on this thread, as the Army Black Knights & Fordham Rams face off against one another at Michie Stadium on the campus of West Point.

For the 30 plus seniors, this will be their last football game ever played at Michie Stadium.

Although the kick off is at 12:00pm EST, you can feel free to jump at anytime before to get the flow going.

Please note that there is a similar thread on The 12th Knight Message Board.
