Lehigh coming to town

It seems apparent that the coaches total focus is on winning Patriot League games (which is probably the right thing). The fact that they didn't start Seaman today against Marist tells me they want him fresh and ready on Saturday.

While Bucknell/Holy Cross and Navy/Lafayette beat each other up, nothing would be sweeter than to chase Lehigh from Doubleday with another weekend woodshed beating. If we can get our bats going early and jumpstart the confidence, it'll be a long slow train back for the Engineers.

Coming Around

Well, it seems as though the team is starting to hit a stride. They sputter and cough every now and then, but the pedal is hitting the metal more than ever and it seems to be picking up steam.

Heading into Navy this weekend, Army is riding a three game winning streak while Navy is the opposite, coming in losing three in a row.

Kevin McKague was hitting 94 on Wed when he struck out 4 in the ninth to get the save against Manhattan. Clothier, Fouch, and Koenigsfeld all pitched very, very well last weekend, and our 2-2 fate didn't match the pitching effort as we let Drew's stellar performance slide through our fingers.

I get the sense that these players are really beginning to believe in themselves now. If we can go into Navy and continue to put up what have of late, been dominant performances, that may be the catylist that ignites all the potential that this team has.

GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY! (like a stinkin' drum)

Army Basketball - Where's the fanbase ?

After watching Army play a very determined game against American this afternoon in the nation's capital I could not get over the fact that barely 100 fans were there supporting the Black Knights. Why ? It's not like there is a shortage of folks with a relationship to West Point living in the DC area. The chilly weather left very few reasons to spent the day outdoors. Does USMA have something against the sport of basketball ?

Coach Crews and his staff have done a superb job of making basketball relevent again. This year's team had a VERY legitimate chance to make it to the NCAA tournement. The last 2 season's relative success and the squad returning for the 2008-9 season certainly provides hope for continued improvement.

I think it's time we get excited about b-ball again. These cadets get it - they work hard and play within a system that will allow them to be highly competitive against the teams we are scheduling against. We participate in a great league that is well suited and balanced for the Academy and have an underappreciated coach who frankly could secure employment across the country ; especially when some AD's take the time to see what he's been able to accomplish at West Point.

My hat's off to this year's team - your efforts are not completely unnoticed. Hope you enjoyed the Patriot League season as much as I did !

Liberty series

A couple of ?'s for anybody in the know.

1) Does anybody have any links for a way to either listen/ see live stats/or watch any of the Liberty games? I didn't see a link from the Liberty baseball page that showed any of those options.

2) Any word on Cole White coming back this weekend? Heard he maybe ready to go.

It looks like bad weather for tomorrow's game but i'm excited to see how our Plebes will continue to grow this weekend!

WOW!!!!!

I'm watching the live stats from todays game and feel it deserves its own thread...its in the top of the 6th and Army is up 23-0 with ALL of the freshman killing the ball (Henshaw 1HR, Greco has 2 HR's, and Simmons has a grand slam). Koenigsfeld is pitching a gem so far ( 5 IP 4 Hits 6 SO) and ALL of this without Mr everything Cole White!!!

We are going to have our growing pains this year but this freshman class is going to be something special for Army over the next 4 years.

This years makeup

With what looks to be a group of large, talented freshman, mixed in with PL player of the year Cole White, a red hot centerfielder in Andy Ernesto, a stonger and more experience JP Polchinski at the hot corner, and proven Tony Capozzi at second, and a starting rotation of two proven seniors in White and Drew Clothier, a more experience soph in Matt Fouch, and a host of good young arms and position players...

Special Lucky Seven Issue Unveiled at Mickey Mantle’s

New York, NY – August 17, 2007: Rutgers University All-America shortstop Todd Frazier and Army closer Milan Dinga are among 17 players honored as Gotham Baseball Magazine announced the Second Annual Division I Post-Season All-Gotham Team. Frazier and Dinga are the only two players who were named to last season’s inaugural team.

Army and St. John’s University each had three players selected, as ace lefthander Nick Hill and pitcher/outfielder Cole White joined fellow Cadet Dinga on the squad. The Red Storm were represented by left-hander Scott Barnes, second baseman Sam DeLuca and designated hitter Ryan Mahoney.

Rutgers, who shared the regular season Big East championship with St. John’s, was named the Gotham Baseball Team of the Year. Outfielder David Williams joined Frazier as the Scarlet Knights’ representation on the team. Northeast Conference champion Monmouth University was represented by Brad Brach and Andy Meyers, two key components in the Hawks’ NEC Tournament title.

Hoftsra University’s Matt Prokopowicz, who hit .416, was the lone freshman selected to the team.

Manhattan, Sacred Heart, Fordham, Quinnipiac and New York Tech were also represented on the team.

Seven players (Nick Hill, Brad Brach, Scott Barnes, Jay Monti, Milan Dinga, Todd Frazier and Cole White) were selected to Gotham Baseball Magazine’s pre-season team, featured in the magazine’s previous issue.

“This team represents only the tip of a very talented mountain of outstanding players in the Gotham area,” said Chip Armonaitis, Gotham Baseball’s college baseball editor. “There are at least another 10 players who had legitimate cases to make this team.”
