Basketball Won-Loss Projection for 2013-14 Season

Well Army is picked to finish third in the Patriot League pre-season poll. I just hope that expectations haven't risen too high. Similar to last year I think that they will be a team that wins when the 3's are falling for them. I expect that they'll have a couple of surprising wins, but also a couple of defeats to teams that they should beat. 19 wins is fairly realistic.

Largely, I think that their success will depend on ball handling--i.e. the extent to which they can cut down on the number of boneheaded turnovers that have been their downfall in the past. I'm hoping that the departure of Ella Ellis won't show that the team's chemistry depended on him the way that the Football team's triple option depended on Trent Steelman for ultimate success in the win column.

Typical of the pattern of the past several years the non-conference schedule is rather soft with only Notre Dame and Rutgers as noteworthy opponents. I'm projecting a lot of early season success with an 8-3 record going into Patriot League play. Also as is typical, I think that the Patriot League schedule will prove more challenging than the pre-season poll indicates, especially with Boston University and Loyola of Maryland entering the league this year. I'm thinking 10-8 in league play with a 1-1 record in the end-of-season tournament. A game-by-game breakdown is as follows:

Air Force - Win 1-0 (All Military Classic at VMI)
VMI or Citadel - Win 2-0 (All Military Classic at VMI)
NJIT - Win 3-0
Delaware - Loss 3-1
at Notre Dame - Loss 3-2
Houston Baptist - Win 4-2
at Columbia - Win 5-2
St. Francis NY - Win 6-2
at Maine - Win 7-2
at Rutgers - Loss 7-3
Coast Guard - Win 8-3
at Lafayette - Loss 8-4
Loyola MD - Win 9-4
at Lehigh - Win 10-4
at Navy - Loss 10-5
Holy Cross - Win 11-5
Bucknell - Win 12-5
at Colgate - Loss 12-6
American - Win 13-6
Boston U. - Loss 13-7
at Loyola MD - Loss 13-8
Lehigh - Win 14-8
Navy - Win 15-8
at Holy Cross - Win 16-8
at Bucknell - Loss 16-9
Colgate - Win 17-9
at American - Win 18-9
Boston U. - Loss 18-10
Lafayette - Loss 18-11
P-League Tourney #1 - Win 19-11
P-League Tourney #2 - Loss 19-12

I'll be in the stands in Lexington, VA cheering on the team in the All Military Classic.

BEAT AIR FORCE!

2013-14 Patriot League Men's Basketball Preseason

ARMY BASKETBALL COACHES REACH CONTRACT EXTENSIONS

Zach Spiker and Dave Magarity Sign Extensions Through 2018

WEST POINT, N.Y. Army Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan announced today that the U.S. Military Academy has agreed to contract extensions for men's basketball coach Zach Spiker and women's basketball coach Dave Magarity. Terms of the agreements were not announced, but the new pacts will keep both coaches on the Army sideline through the 2017-18 season.
"This is a great day for the future of basketball at West Point," Corrigan said. "Zach and Dave have done tremendous jobs developing their respective programs, and today's announcement ensures the continuity and stability of both teams for years to come. The men's and women's teams achieved at record levels last year, and with the caliber of returning players and recruiting success, the future is bright. We strongly believe that we have the right coaches in place to mentor our cadets and for our programs to compete for Patriot League championships."

Spiker is in his fifth season at West Point. The 2013 Patriot League Coach of the Year presided over Army's first winning season in 28 years (16-15) and the Black Knights' first winning conference season in the Patriot League era (8-6). Spiker was named a finalist for the Hugh Durham Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top mid-major coach. He was one of only seven coaches to receive at least one vote for the Associated Press National Coach of the Year honor.

Spiker is one of only four Army coaches to win at least 50 games in their first four seasons, joining Bobby Knight, Mike Krzyzewski and George Hunter in the exclusive club. His four-year conference win total is higher than any of Army's previous coaches since joining the Patriot League in 1990. The Black Knights have captured "Star Game" victories versus arch-rival Navy in three of his first four seasons, including the last two. He is the first coach to take home the Alumni Trophy in consecutive seasons since a three-year run by Krzyzewski from 1976-78.

"Both my family and staff are extremely humbled to have the opportunity to continue mentoring and coaching our cadet-athletes," Spiker said. "We are very grateful for the support shown by Mr. Corrigan, his executive staff and the Academy's leadership team. Coaching at West Point is a tremendous honor, and we are excited for the chance to be here for years to come."

Magarity is in his eighth season as the head coach of Army women's basketball. He earned the 2013 Patriot League Coach of the Year award after guiding the Black Knights to the conference regular-season crown, including two victories versus Navy. Army made the program's first WNIT appearance in 2013 while authoring the program's second-best turnaround in Division I history by increasing its win total from the previous year by eight games. The 22-9 Black Knights made conference history by sweeping all four of the league's major awards and set program standards for least number of turnovers and defensive scoring average.

Magarity is Army's all-time leader in Division I victories with a 121-88 record. His career record stands at 434-423 in 30 years as both a men's and women's coach at the Division I level.

"I'm now entering my 31st year as a head coach and I could not be happier," said Magarity. "To have the continued support of Mr. Corrigan and the administration means a lot to me and this program. Coming off the year we had, I'm excited to have the opportunity to continue to coach at West Point. I feel we're heading in the right direction towards an NCAA Tournament berth, and I owe a lot of that to the terrific job our coaching staff has done. Associate head coach Colleen Mullen and all of our assistants have done an amazing job recruiting which plays an integral part in exceeding expectations and accomplishing our goals."

Both programs return key players from the 2012-13 rosters, including Men's Patriot League Rookie of the Year Kyle Wilson and Women's Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year Kelsey Minato. The men open the season on Nov. 8 versus Air Force, while the women begin their campaign on Nov. 11 at St. Francis (N.Y.).

NSA Network Engineering Codes provided to China for Defense Contractors

You see it is impossible to put a trojan horse on a defense contractor computer, that is protected by multi layered encryption. Even if you had access to an internal computer on site directly in the design departments you could not pirate the information without the encryption key, it would all be random code. None of these files are unprotected. So it isn't that the Chinese hacked in like a high school student hollywood style. There is only one way they could of pirated this information. Someone had to provide them the decryption keys to even see the information. And someone would have had to provide them the engineering codes to the internal mainframe to pirate it, you couldn't get in with an email passcode like they would have you believe. Only one group in the entire world could of done that. Nobody has access to all of any government defense project. It is all compartmentalized, so that different computer zones are only working on one part of the project and those groups are firewall protected from the other sides. Only someone above that firewall could have even had access to that, but even they don't have any way to decrypt the files off the computers. Only one group could possibly have done this. And we all know who that is. So if China has these secrets that isn't a mistake just so you know. That is what happens when traitors takeover the country. They denounce the patriots for lack of patriotism, and they proceed to rip the pillars down inside the gates because you were not paying attention to that nice Trojan sacrifice statue you brought inside the gates. Ron Paul was simply saying what if there are people inside that statue that are going to slit our throats while we are sleeping, most of the country laughed at him. But when you all were asleep they came inside the gates and got into high places. And now we all know what happens next don't we.

http://venturebeat.com/2013/05/02/qinetiq-china-hack/

Chinese cyberspies stole a good majority of U.K.-based defense contractor Bloomberg. The theft happened over a three-year period in which QinetiQ seemed to make all the wrong moves.
We're all aware cyberespionage is a growing threat in the United States, where military secrets are of high value. This group, known as the Comment Crew, hacked its way into QinetiQ's North American division's systems in 2007. The defense contractor was originally notified of the breach by a Naval Criminal Investigative Service employee who found two infected computers at QinetiQ's McLean, Va., headquarters. The discovery was tangential to another Naval Criminal Investigative Service project that revealed a great many more compromised defense contractors. But this information was left out of the report to QinetiQ.
Bloomberg chronicles what happened from there. It looked at internal QinetiQ emails as revealed by Anonymous' hack on HBGary, revealing a string of poor decisions. Security firms HBGary, as well as Terremark and Mandient, came in to deal with the intrusions. But HBGary's monitoring software slowed employee computers down so much they actually removed it with permission from their IT departments.
Richard Clarke, the former special adviser to George W. Bush, explained to Bloomberg that this could wind up being a huge embarrassment if we ever get into a conflict with China. "We try out all these sophisticated weapons systems, and they don't work," he explained.
Mandient revealed the Comment Crew to the masses earlier this year as a specialized group of hackers working for the People's Liberation Army. Comment Crew is otherwise known as PLA 61398.
One of the ways the Comment Crew got into further systems was by stealing passwords and simply logging in as if they were employees working remotely. Mandient had pointed out this to QinetiQ, suggesting a fix, which might have been two-factor authentication. QinetiQ did not act on the advice.
Furthermore, when future attacks were uncovered ?such as one reported by NASA ? the company continued to treat them as isolated events instead of as an organized attempt to steal what eventually would be secret military data on drones, robotics, and more. Bloomberg reports the amount as being close to 3.3 million Excel spreadsheets.
Terremark senior vice president Christopher Day spoke to Bloomberg, saying,"There was virtually no place we looked where we didn't find them."
Last May, QinetiQ was given a new contract from the U.S. Transportation Department for $4.7 million.
We have reached out to QinetiQ for comment on the report and will update this story upon hearing back.

THE NEW WORLD ORDER - AMERICA SEIZED SLAP STYLE

ON VIDEO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N123BNfWhps (LINK BELOW)

THE NEW WORLD ORDER. It has come, it has attacked the entire country from manufactured terrorism, UN takeover of legal systems, manufactured disarming of the populace, foreign plants inside the government role playing like Feinstein plotting destruction of the body politic, Obama's Chief of Staff Emanuel, all dual citizens like Henry Kissinger. From Fed Reserve Chairman and Hillary Clinton attending secret meetings with clandestine world leaders and royalty at Bilderberg shedding all the countries secrets and vulnerabilities, to the NSA providing infrastructure access so that China can have an information highway to all the country's darkest secrets like the new stealth fighter designs and Navy ship designs in real time years before the projects were into the production setup phases rendering 6 trillion dollars in research completely obsolete. To OBAMA STANDING WITH HIS COUSIN BUSH, LITERALLY, AND CALLING FOR ADOLF HITLER'S NEW WORLD ORDER.

And while many of you may be brainwashed into denial, ask yourself one question. Why were you never told that Adolf Hitler wrote a sequel to Mein Kampf? I am sure some of you are studying ww2 at the academy. Did you know that Prescott Bush, George Bush's father, and Jr's Grandfather, financed ADOLF HITLER DIRECTLY? Yah, you might want to start to think about that right about now before they start the death camps in this country. YOU GOT PLAYED FOOL STYLE. FOLLY STYLE. SLOPPY STYLE. HE MADE YOU SERVE HIS DESIRES TO DESTROY AMERICA WITHIN TREASON STYLE. Obama then went to West Point and lashed the Cadets by literally calling for a New World Order before the entire West Point Academy with no criticism. That is just outlandish styled.

False reports outpace sex assaults in the military

A Google search on sexual abuse in the military there reveals a storm of false info and hysteria. Claims that 1 in 3 females in the military are raped are rotuine. Just on the face of things it looks like a bizarre claim ("homosexual "suicides" are likewise inlfated by the same people). There are elements within the defense sector driving a bubble of inflated abuse claims (using legally non binding protocols such as 1 drink preventing legitimate "consnet"). The same elements then attack gain while blaming the military for not having a higher conviction rate. These elements are the same people who have always hated the military, and resented that (with all its problems) it was still the best functioning institution and the most respected by the American people. While real criminals and abusers should be dealth with harshly there is a fake crisis being floated. That's pretty standard these days.

From one article:

"False complaints of sexual abuse in the military are rising at a faster rate than overall reports of sexual assault, a trend that could harm combat readiness, analysts say.

Virtually all media attention on a Pentagon report last week focused on an increase in service members' claims of sexual abuse in an anonymous survey, but unmentioned were statistics showing that a significant percentage of such actually investigated cases were baseless.

From 2009 to 2012, the number of sexual abuse reports rose from 3,244 to 3,374 ? a 4 percent increase.

During the same period, the number of what the Pentagon calls "unfounded allegations" based on completed investigations of those reports rose from 331 to 444 ? a 35 percent increase"

False reports outpace sex assaults in the military

New season well under way.

We actually got a vote for the top 25 this past week.
It is exciting to watch the girls play. They might even be better than last year. Our big girls are solid and Meagan Evans is tough at 6'3". The girls filling in are Courtney Wright( 6'0 but very strong) and Jillian Busch (6'3" and seasoned). Stephanine Stone has started slowly but has come on offensively in the past few games. Alex Mcguire is still tough as woodpecker lips. She takes the ball to the hole and plays stingy, physical defense. Jen Hansen has developed into a great floor leader and her 3-point shot helps when they choke down low. However, Cara Enright is still the main attraction. She gets a quiet twenty points every night and is double, triple teamed most nights. Somehow, at the end, her points are there. No fanfare, just hard work. Some of my favorite players are Anna Wilson-"tiny dancer" who bounces all over the floor, and Margaree King ("Red") who steps in like a brawler and amps up the tempo every time. Tiffany Taylor, a plebe, looks good at the post if not just a little raw and Jessie McCormack is a smaller version of Alex McGuire. Toss in the change ups of Erin Begonia who sees the floor like no one else, Sarah Anderson who can bang with any big girl in the league, and Joanne Carelus who gets solid minutes mostly as a defender and we have a pretty solid team with good depth.

Army Basketball-Great effort

Congrats to our team on a successful 2012-13 campaign- I was proud of our effort against Bucknell yesterday..In the end, the fact they (Bucknell) had been there before was probably the difference maker..They sunk almost all their free throws thru that final 2+ min stretch..We were not as deadly, after being nearly flawless for 35 Mins...I have seen us on TV for 5 games now, so that has shaped my impressions of the team..We play good basketball..and all on the court play very well together...I heard one of the commentators comment that Ferguson has the most upside because of his height...He has pretty good hands and plays hard-he just needs to gain about 20 Lbs. Lennox plays an interesting role- The game almost seems to become frenic when he is in there sometimes in a good way, and sometimes in an oh my god we are out of control way..The 5 freshmen (who I have seen play allot) are all poised beyond their years and seem to exude quiet confidence...I also read on facebook that the team at Army Prep this past year was also very very good, so it will be interesting to see how they will mesh in..We will miss Ellis and Springer-Pancone with his leadership I am certain added more to the teams successes than we will ever know--I hope we continue to improve and make more noise in the PL than we did this year for the foreseeable future,

GO ARMY!

Army Black Knights Destroy American in PL Quarterfinals

The Black Knights continue to make history by thrashing the AU Eagles in the Patriot League quarterfinal matchup last night at Christl Arena. Plebe Kevin Ferguson blocked 5 shots and had his best overall game of the season. The entire team came out with a "take no prisoners" attitude and never trailed in this important post season game. Lots of brass sitting in the stands...including Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Ray Odierno. Great job by all in securing the victory and Army's first winning season since the '84-'85 campaign!

Next up...#1 seed Bucknell, on the road in Lewisburg, PA. Not gonna be easy, but Army is definitely capable of pulling off the upset. Go Army! Beat Bucknell!! HOOAH!!!

do or die - it's that simple

I don't wqnt to over dramatize this evening's game but Ella and Springer are facing their last game in college basketball. This team can and should believe they can surprise over the next 8 days. It starts with "Beat American" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know the plebes are ready. Secure the winning record and shock the world one game at a time. It's been a great year .... Thank You !!!!!!!

Army Black Knights Fall to Lehigh in Regular Season Finale

The Black Knights couldn't quite get over the hump against Lehigh after rallying back from a 16 point 2nd half deficit. Credit Lehigh's strong defense down the stretch forcing some turnovers that kept Army at bay. Ella Ellis had another 30 point outing in the loss.

Great regular season overall for the Black Knights. Now, they must put all that behind them and focus on beating American for the third time this season in the Patriot League tournament quarterfinal game at Christl Arena. Nothing matters now except winning the next game. Go Army!!! HOOAH!!!

Army Black Knights Sweep Holy Cross on Senior Night

The Black Knights took the best blows Holy Cross could throw at them and ground out a hard fought victory to honor the 3 seniors in the final regular season home game. Ella Ellis took the lead and carried Army to victory. Major history is being made, folks...including a record 8 wins in the Patriot League. Army secures a home court for the 1st round of the PL tournament!

Next up is Lehigh on the road, and a chance to avenge an earlier season loss. Army could possibly end up with a 2 seed in the PL tournament by winning coupled with a Lafayette loss. Don't count out these Black Knights! Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Sweep American

The Black Knights continue to make history, reaching 7 Patriot League wins for the first time! Other firsts include a 4 game Patriot League winning streak and a 4 game road winning streak. Army completely embarrassed the Eagles on their home court on Senior Day and continues to show its versatility and firepower, even if some of the usual scorers are struggling. Toth and Herbeck provided scoring punch in the 1st half, then Ellis and Wilson picked up the load in the 2nd half. In-your-face defense kept American at bay and allowed the Black Knights to go on several scoring runs. Excellent all-round game by the Black Knights.

Next up is the final regular season home game against Holy Cross. Can the BKs finish another sweep? Right now, this team seems to be on the way to peaking at the right time, still getting better each game. I've said it before; this group of plebes has injected a new swagger into the team and when coupled with the senior leadership of Ellis, Springer and Pancoe, the results have been pretty dang good! Believe me, these guys are determined to get to "the dance" and despite the odds still being a bit long, they are going to give all they have in that quest. And we would expect no less from these fine cadets...sometimes it's easy to forget they are cadets when rooting for them as basketball players.

As Coach Spiker says, each upcoming game is the most important one so all the focus right now is on Holy Cross. History has already been made...the guys still feel there is more to come! Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Beat Colgate, Make History

The Black Knights came out hot and got revenge for an earlier loss to Colgate at their gym. Ella Ellis was on fire with 34 points, and the Army defense held the Raiders to low shooting percentage. Even after Colgate made a 2nd half run, Army answered with an 8-0 run to finish strong!

Army is now in uncharted territory with a 6-5 conference record...above .500 in conference play after 11 games for the first time since joining the Patriot League. Upcoming games against American and Holy Cross should give the Black Knights a good chance to secure a home court for the PL quarterfinals.

Go Army! HOOAH!!!
