Army Black Knights Get Revenge Against Navy

The Black Knights exacted some revenge on the Midshipmen, pulling out a 56-55 victory to win the annual Star Game. A blown goaltending call at the end cost Army 2 points that would have given Army a 3 point lead for the final Navy possession. A great defensive effort on Navy's point guard caused an errant shot at the buzzer, preserving the win for Army. Exciting game!

Once again, Army's shooting against Navy was subpar, but the defense stepped up and kept Navy withing striking distance the entire game. Clutch shots and tough defense during the 2nd half brought the Black Knights back and secured the Alumni Trophy! Army now is in sole possession of 4th place in the Patriot League.

Next up...Colgate, who just knocked off Lehigh...go figure!

Wednesday's game at Christl Arena will be huge and Army has a chance to string together several wins to close out league play. Go Army! HOOAH!!!

Army Black Knights Sweep Lafayette

The Black Knights got their first sweep of the season by spanking Lafayette in Easton, PA. Building a 31 point lead in the 2nd half, Army took its foot off the gas a bit to win by 17, 85-68. Just like their earlier meeting, the Black Knight totally dominated the Leopards, taking them totally out of their screen and shoot offense.

Next up is "payback weekend" against Navy in Annapolis. In their first meeting, Army had an abysmal shooting night and Navy somehow found their best shooting performance of the season, creating a kind of "perfect storm" and getting the win. This time, look for the Black Knights to hit more shots and limit the Midshipmen's looks.

Go Army! Beat Navy!!!

Army Black Knights Drop Close One to Bucknell

The Black Knights took Bucknell to the wire on Saturday, falling to the Bison by 2 points. Army is getting tougher and better with each game, despite the 10-13 record. One bright spot in the game was plebe Larry Toomey's monster dunk on Bucknell's Mike Muscala.

With the back-to-back games against Lehigh and Bucknell now out of the way, Army looks to bounce back and put together a streak of Ws, starting with Lafayette on Wed. and then to exact some revenge on Navy on Sat. Both are road games, but I think the Black Knights are up to the task.

Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Come Up Short Against Lehigh

The Black Knights had a rough first half, falling far behind the Mountain Hawks midway through the stanza. A valiant effort in the second half saw Army claw back to within 5 points, but a technical foul on Spiker and some missed free throws and scoring opportunities stalled the momentum and prevented the team from overcoming the deep deficit. The positive spin is that the team showed they can compete, even outplay, Lehigh if they play like they did in the second half. The negative is that they also can play at a lower level at times and that gets them in trouble.

Next up on Saturday is the start of the second round of conference action, and there will be nothing easy about Bucknell. Last time out, Bucknell smacked Army around pretty well. The Black Knights will need their best performance of the year to get the win. Time to step up and run with the big dogs!

Go Army!!!

Worcester, Ma. was stunned

Army improved to 3-3 in Patriot League play with an impressive 40 minute effort led by the USMAPS Class of 2012 starting five for the second straight game. The new rotation employed by Coach Spiker has delivered stunning results against American and Holy Cross in back to back games. The team's leading scorer, Ella Ellis, coming off the bench, still led the way with 23 ( keynoted by an 11 for 11 performance from the line). Kyle Wilson continued his high level of play which is leading him towards League Freshman of the Year. For the 3rd consecutive game, he topped the 20 pt. mark with 21 in over 30 minutes of play.

This back to back win sequence reminds one that there is some exciting talent in the Army B-ball program. Winning on the road is noteworthy for this young team but especially so last night,. Every time Holy Cross made a run in the second half, Army had the answer and then some. It may rank as the most impressive victory of the year. No doubt the league is waking up to something not seen at Army since joining the conference over 20 years ago.

Hopefully the 2 stunning losses to Colgate and Navy are in the rear view mirror and both losses will be avenged in the second half of the Patriot League schedule ( could you imagine ARMY being 5-1 in leagued play ???? that would be summed up in one word - HISTORIC).

Army ends the first half with the daunting task of taking on Patriot League leader Lehigh @ Christl Arena on Saturday. Hopefully a large crowd will be there to root on the oh so hot Black Knights for the 1 PM tipoff.

Army Black Knights Bounce Back Over American in Christl Arena

The Black Knights regrouped, literally, and dominated the American Eagles Saturday in the home court comforts of Christl Arena. Coach Spiker started 5 plebes...yes, not a misprint...5 plebes.
shock.r191677.gif
The starting 5 from last year's USMAPS squad responded and scored 56 of Army's 77 points. Rumor is that a message was being sent to the seniors after last Wednesday's loss at Colgate. Whatever the case, Army got a much needed win against a team that had won their previous 6 meetings.

Next up is a road trip to Holy Cross on Wednesday. Another tough game but one that the Black Knights are certainly capable of winning. Will they start 5 plebes again? Only coach knows for sure...

Army Black Knights Fall in OT to Colgate

The Black Knights snatched defeat from jaws of victory, missing 2 front ends of one-and-ones and letting Colgate make up a 6 point deficit with less than minute left in regulation. Either of those free throws would have added an extra possession and likely sealed the win. Colgate's beast Murphy Burnatowski scorched Army for 35 points. Combine that with Army's leading scorer being held to 5 points and you get this kind of result. Questions continue to remain for this team's mental toughness amid yet another disappointing result against Patriot League bottom dwellers.

Next up is American back home at Christl Arena. Time to ratchet things up and make their push NOW, before things get totally out of hand.

Army Black Knights Fall to Navy

Disappointing loss to rival Navy on Sunday, a game the Black Knights should have won by double digits. The shooting percentage (31% overall, abysmal 10% from 3-pt. range) hit a miserable low, surprising considering this was a home game with a capacity crowd. Navy shot out of their minds from behind the arc (47.8%) and just was the better team that day.

Look for Army to turn the tables in February when they go to Annapolis. Next up on Wednesday is a road game at Colgate. Army must shake the shooting slump and come out firing. Too many good shooters on the team to have everybody get cold in the same game...

Go Army!

THANK YOU PRESIDENT CLINTON

19yrs ago this President signed a bill, for us to celabrate Martin Luther King Jr. a national holiday. We celebrate by giving back to others & our community. I'm glad that Martin did what he did for the PEOPLE. Let not this day be unrecognized by all. Today we see the fruit of Martins labor of love, we have a black President because of it . Everyone have a wonderful day! NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE

Army Black Knights Dominate Lafayette For 1st Conference Win

Home, Sweet Home! The Black Knights smacked Lafayette around with pressure defense and high percentage shooting to get their first conference win. This was a much needed win and gave us a glimpse of what this team can do when all cylinders are firing. Great to see them bounce back after their disappointing trip to Bucknell this past weekend.

Next up is Navy at Christl Arena on Sunday! Go Army! Beat Navy!!! HOOAH!!!

Army Black Knights Lose Conference Opener vs Bucknell

The Black Knights fell to Bucknell on Saturday, showing that there is still a lot of work to do for this team to get on par with the top tier teams in the Patriot League. That, combined with being plagued with injuries to some key players, contributed to an unsuccessful start to PL action. Although not catastrophic, this opening loss in conference play was disappointing in that this young team had hoped to give Bucknell a good run.

Next up is Lafayette on Wednesday. Expect the Black Knights to regroup and come out strong.

Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Stumble Against Columbia

Uncharacteristically low shooting percentages from the field (32.7% overall, 24.4% on 2s) and free throw line (50%) were the undoing of the Black Knights on Saturday at Christl Arena. Columbia overcame an 8 point deficit early in the 2nd half behind some hot shooting to rally for the win. Unlike some games where the 3s not falling caused the problem (Army shot 57.1% from behind the arc), this time it was the inability to score inside against Columbia's bigger post players that contributed to the demise.

This team continues to be a work in progress, and with Patriot League action coming up soon, Army has 1 more non-conference game at Dartmouth on Tuesday to try and tweak some things. First PL game will be at Bucknell...nothing like taking on the top dog on the road to get things started. Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Crash at Dartmouth

Army inexplicably finds itself in a midseason slump of sorts, with another poor shooting performance at Dartmouth. Coupled with apparently leaving their defense back at West Point, the Black Knights laid an egg. Dartmouth got hot from beyond the arc and just put Army away early in the 2nd half. That long bus ride back to WP must have been brutal.

Army opens Patriot League play on the road at Bucknell on Saturday. Let's hope the promising young group that played so well in earlier games shows up and replaces the ineffective squad that looked so helpless against The Green.

Army Black Knights Get Road Win Over Houston Baptist

Despite a well below average shooting percentage, the Black Knights gutted out a 95-86 win over HBU in Houston. Army had a great fan contingent that almost had a home court feel and the guys responded with a powerful push in the 2nd half. HBU did make some incredible contested 3s at the end to keep the game from being a blowout, but the Black Knights finished the game for the win.

Great finish to 2012 and a good springboard for upcoming Patriot League action. Happy New Year and Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Drop Close Game at Texas A&M

Very close game, Black Knights came very close to pulling this one out. Aggies definitely had the "12th Man" going for them with possibly the worst officiating I can recall seeing in a Division 1 game in many years, including a 27-7 Aggies edge in free throws attempted. The down side is it equates to another road loss. The up side is Army did not quit, complain or use excuses and will use this latest frustration further temper themselves for Patriot League action next month.

Next up is Houston Baptist on New Year's Eve. Go Army!!!

PRAYERS FOR SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (FAMILIES)

Out of all my years of teaching, this has got to be the worse tragedy I ever seen they was (BABIES) We can try to get some kind of answers as to WHY. But there is none. I have been teaching for 16yrs, would give my life for any of the children that walks threw the doors at any moment. So I want to thank the teachers & staff that kept the rest of the children safe to the best of their ability. This tragedy has had me at a disbelief sense the story broke. I asked myself what can I do to help as the tears fall for the families of the children & staff that was taken. So I came up with, talk to the children more about gun awareness, pay more attention when children & staff is not having a good day. Don't take it for granted that they going to be ok, specially if their behaviors have changed drastically. Pay more attention to my family members behavior. Get them help if needed, if I can't help. We as a people has to take a stand to help prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again. WE CAN'T TAKE THIS LIGHTLY! My heart felt prayers go out to the families & the community, asking God to give them peace as they try to make sense of a senseless crime. I pray that the nation pays more attention to mental illness. It should never come to this again for us to may attention to one of our love ones cry for help. God bless them all, I pray for healing Lord. Give us everything we need to get threw this, with the understanding that we're in this together. Please Lord give us the knowledge of awareness, to prevent this from happening again. ( BIG TEARS)
In Jesus name AMEN

Army Black Knights Lose Heartbreaker Road Game to NJIT

The Black Knights appeared to be heading to a good road victory leading by 12 with just over 3 minutes remaining. Then the wheels fell off as NJIT execute a relentless attacking press, forcing turnovers and getting easy baskets, pulling out a last second 69-67 win.

Army faces another tough opponent in Maine this Friday for a much needed home game to try and get back on track.

Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Destroy Maine in Christl Arena

The Black Knights obviously like playing at home and flirted with the century mark for the 2nd game in a row at Christl Arena. Definitely a good win just before TEEs. Good play all around with all dressed players getting in the game.

Next up on Saturday 12/22 is Rosemont right before a quick Christmas break and a Texas two-step against SEC foe Texas A&M on the 29th and Houston Baptist on the 31st.

Go Army!!!

Army Black Knights Come Up Short at Penn State

The Black Knights suffered another hard loss at the hands of the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. A valiant surge in the 2nd half drew Army within 2 points, but a couple of questionable offensive foul calls, including one that fouled out Ella Ellis, let the momentum slip, leaving the Black Knights on the wrong end of a 78-70 score.

Next up is another road game against NJIT on Tuesday. The guys will be ready to get back in the win column.

Go Army!!!
