Turning around a football program: how much patience?

Clearly we are expecting great things from Monken and his staff. The question is - when will we see clear signs of the turnaround in W-L?

Are you more in the David Cutliffe camp at Duke where it took 5+ years for results?

2008: 4-8
2009: 5-7
2010: 3-9
2011: 3-9
2012: 6-7
2013: 10-4
2014: 9-4

Or are you in the Bill Snyder (first go-around) camp where meaningful progress was made right away but took ~5 years to achieve sustained performance?

1989: 1-10
1990: 5-6
1991: 7-4
1992: 5-6
1993: 9-2-1

Or are you in the Paul Johnson camp where it was a ~2 year turnaround?

2002: 2-10
2003: 8-5
2004: 10-2

For me, I'm not expecting more wins in 2015 but think 2016 is when the team will hit it's stride. So basically in the "Bill Snyder" camp. Paul Johnson with Navy is the closest analog in terms of team talent and system, but think we lost too much in the backfield/defensive line to take a major step forward (note: In 2003, Navy returned starting QB, and both slot backs; total of 5 offensive and 5 defensive returning starters excluding kicker and punter; depth chart going into that season had all seniors or juniors with exception of 1 sophomore).

Ultimately, I hope there is patience with Monken and his staff to get the full system implemented, the recruiting humming, and the culture changed.

GBK : Post Spring Depth Chart

This upcoming week, get ready for our GBK post spring depth chart listing. As you know, there were some spots that were a lock, like Josh Jenkins & Chris Carnegie at the corners or Jeremy Timpf and Andrew King at the two MLB positions. However, there was plenty of competition for other starting spots, plus who is has pushed their way up to 2nd or 3rd on the depth charts?

What will our record be in 2015?

  1. Fordham (Opening at home - this is a must/will win game) 1-0
  2. @ UConn (on the road vs a team looking for revenge & they get it) 1-1
  3. Wake Forest (home cooking prevails and so do we) 2-1
  4. @ Eastern Michigan (no game will be easy, but we pull this one out) 3-1
  5. @ Penn State (nope) 3-2
  6. Duke (will end up as a good battle at home, but we fall short) 3-3
  7. Bucknell (they are just in time on our schedule) 4-3
  8. @ Rice (two in a row) 5-3
  9. @ Air Force (back 2 back road loses) 5-4
  10. Tulane (back home again and the streak starts) 6-4
  11. Rutgers (fans shout - "Big Ten Who?”) 7-4
  12. Navy (#Finally) 8-4

GBK: Recruiting Update

The Army staff is kicking recruiting into high gear as the majority of the crew will be on the road recruiting for the next 2-3 weeks.

Of course there will be tons of new names hitting the radar, but also some prospects will have an opportunity to get a better feel from the staff with either an in-home or school visit.

The obvious question at this stage is, WHO WILL BE THE FIRST TO COMMIT? We will be sharing with you our projections on surrounding that question sometime this week, so stay tuned.
