Although I won't go into a lot of detail and will wait for this to play out ... here is the latest on QB William James.
Yes, he has de-committed from Army and committed to Air Force, but in my Sunday conversation with the James, he confirmed that his pledge to the Falcons at this stage of the process is now what we at Rivals label as "soft" versus solid. Of course, one could argue that solid or soft from James regarding his pledge anywhere is neither here nor there and I understand how fans could feel that way.
What is also understandable when it comes to many 17-18 year old student-athletes when it comes to weighing what college is the right fit ... especially when are considering two academies like West Point and Air Force, it's not always as simple as 1,2,3. But of course as fans of a particular school, there's always that sense that what other program is better than ours {smiling}.
With that being said, James spoke highly of Army slotback coach, Tucker Waugh who has been handling his recruiting and Waugh is one of the primary reasons that James is still open to Army, along with some other factors of course.
Like some recruits, along with their parents/family .... serving, along with what your service may be upon graduation is also one factor that eventually caused James "some" concern.
He also weighed the type offense that both programs run and initially felt that he would enjoy playing in the Air Force offense more, because that seem to be more open to the passing game that Army. His follow up conversations with the Army staff made it clear that passing was not an option {no pun intended} in 2014, because they offense did not have anyone at QB that was a legitimate college level passer and that obviously does not come as a surprise to any of the Black Knights' fan base who watched the offense last season ... it just wasn't Angel Santiago's strong point.
So, where are we now with regard to James' college status? Well, he will be sitting down over the next 2-3 days and weighing the pros & cons. And by Wednesday the latest, he will make his final decision .... Army or Air Force.
