Army Navy Lacrosse tonight

The lacrosse team plays Navy in the semi-finals of the Patriot League at 7:30 this evening, and the game will be carried on CBS Sports.

For the past few years, Army has dominated Navy in regular season play, but Navy beat Army in the regular season game earlier this year dropping Army in national ranking and PL championship seeding. Army started the season as a ball of fire but faded during PL play. Hopefully, they can get back to early season form this evening and get revenge for their loss to Navy earlier.

Rebuilding Year?

Last year's team was heavily laced with seniors in starting positions, with 7 seniors starting on defense and 5 starting on offense. The post spring depth chart suggests that this year there will be only 2 senior starters on defense and between 3 and 6 on offense depending on how you count them as well as who wins the starting roles at quarterback and fullback

Altimala and Carnegie are the two probable senior starters on defense, but McLean is challenging Altimalala at NT; which would leave only one senior on the defense when he's in the game. Fortunately those two seniors are joined by 3 juniors who were regular starters last year, Timpf, King, and Jenkins along with sophomores Voit and England who had significant playing time. Moss has started for two years but at a different position and is still learning how to play safety; so we can't think of him as a veteran.

At this point it would appear that the team will have 3 senior starters on the offensive line led by Gilbert and Hugenberg who were regular starters either last year or the year before along with Hennesey, who started 6 games. Kelvin White is the probable starter at TE and he played all 12 games with 3 starts; and Deandre Bell is a likely starter at one of the WR slots with only 5 games last season; but they will share playing time; so only one of them is likely to be on the field at one time. Giachinta will vie with Kemper for the starting role and Schurr will be competing with Bradshaw at quarterback. Depending on who is playing quarterback and fullback and whether the TE or 2 WRs are in the game, there could be as few as 3 seniors on offense.

Quite a change from last season.

Cajun Recruiting Flavor for 2016

Five. Count'em five players offered from Louisiana. Gone are the days of only kickers getting offers from our state. I literally dropped my fork at lunch today when I saw this. Also see an increase in New Jersey recruiting which is great for the program. We used to hold our own in Texas and battle with Air Force there so hopefully we get the pipeline going again in the Lone Star state. Looks like we are going back to truly being a national recruiter. By the way the QB from Louisiana (Scott) beat my son out for 1st team all state this year and can really play. He would be a great get for the program.

Excited about the recruiting Class of 2015 and what they will bring to the table. These young men have accepted the challenge and from what you can read about them are poised to do great things over the next 4-5 years. The arrow is pointing straight up brethren.

GEAUX ARMY! BEAT'EM ALL!!!

Can Anyone Catch? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I know that Army isn't a passing team, but man when balls hit guys in the hands they have to catch them just sometimes. I'm calling this passing game the Stoney Lonesome offense because guys can be standing alone and squared off but the ball still bounces off those stone hands. I know its only the spring game andt mean to be rude but things are THAT bad.

On the flip side, Josh Jenkins INT return and leap along the sideline was like All American play. He looks a little better than everyone else. Last time I saw a player like that in person it was Devin McCourty at Rutgers.

EDIT: Came across the passing stats

Kaufmann, Matthew 3-8-0
Gonzales, Seth 0-3-1
Bradshaw, Ahmad 4-9-2

Total all receptions = 52 yards

Rolling out the new brand

Ultimately, the popularity of the new brand will be evidenced by the number of people who adopt it. Since the announcement on Monday, I've watched the Army West Point lacrosse game on CBS Sports and looked at the photos of the spring football game to see if anyone is adopting the new brand.

The football coaches at the spring game were sporting gray polo shirts with the new logo on the front and Alberici had on a gray zip up sweatshirt with the new logo as well. Presumably, Boo made sure that the coaches were up to date on branding for the game. The player uniforms for both teams were still using the old logo and lettering (speed A) for the most part, which is also not surprising. The new logo on the coaches shirts and Alberici's sweatshirt looked pretty nifty.

The lacrosse game on TV was particularly interesting because the announcers commented on the recent branding change, and the scoreboard displayed Army West Point at times and just Army at times. The announcers also used Army West Point in their play by play, but frequently slipped into saying just Army. It didn't sound awkward either way.

In one of the photos from the spring game, Jeanty is wearing a tee shirt with West Point and the black knight logo on it, which was an interesting choice for a recruit who has not yet committed. Presumably he picked that tee shirt out himself, and he's identifying with West Point.
