How true this GBK article turned out to be on Saturday!

Click here - The Importance of Army’s B-Back position. These guys really showed up and showed off on Saturday in game that we HAD TO WIN!

Great job by the O-line, but great all around job with the down field blocking by the slotbacks and receivers and as Monken had preached all week - sustaining our blocks as well.

Rivals adds new ratings of our commits

While we all eagerly await the ressurection of our triple option running success and a first victory this Saturday in Ypsilanti, Michigan I want to point out some good news that has already happened. Rivals and their analysts have been getting around to putting some ratings on our unrated commits and the results are quite good. Here is what I am noticing:

1) Kyle Harrell, Safety, Calera, Alabama is a 5.4 (2 star)
2) Joseph King V, Corner, Jacksonville, Florida is a 5.4 (2 star) He was most explosive athlete at the late June Army camp.
3) Joe Ryan, LB, Plant, Florida is a 5.3 (2 star)
4) Justin Thomas, Safety, Hollywood, FL is a 5.3 (2 star)

These new ratings propelled Army from 99th to 86th on the Rivals rankings without even adding a new commit. We passed Navy, AF, and UConn.

I believe there is more good news coming. Gavin Bassett is highly regarded by others and I expect he'll also get a 5.4 rating. Stephone Moore-Green will probably get a 5.3. And I suspect 2-3 other commits with no Rivals rating will acquire one as well.

I wanted more wins at this point in the season but a winning program requires a full time recruiting program and we sure appear to have one going. At this rate we'll have commits just as strong or stronger at the top end of our range as we did last year. It is especially good to see that the Rivals anlaysts recognize what our coaches noticed in the two camps. And I must say that we are doing especially well in Florida. So keep up the good work Army and close those highly touted prospects that are still considering us this year!

Why I'm extremely encouraged

I'm excited about the direction of Army football. Really excited. Before I get into why.... let me tell you that I live and die with every Army game. There is no fan out there who wants this team to succeed, right now, more than I do. I was nearly in tears yesterday when they kicked that field goal. That said, I am encouraged about our future. Why? I never remember seeing this much young talent on the field. And I mean NEVER. Yes, there were individual examples in past years but not the wholesale approach for freshmen and sophomores on the field that we're seeing now. What a game by Jackson, our frosh DB, yesterday! Bradshaw is going to be an impact player for us for two more seasons. Brinson... the guy is going to be a beast. Harris, Draper, Asberry, etc. The list goes on...

I believe we will still win some games this year. Next year will be much better. The offensive line "beef" that arrived as freshman this year (either USMAPS or direct) will be ready to help. And the year after that will be better still. In the meantime, we're going to keep building from the bottom up. I love the way this staff is recruiting and that will pay dividends.

That was a hard fought game yesterday. We came out on the short end, but it was an even contest. And we were doing it with lots of youth. To the current juniors and seniors, please keep playing your butts off. You guys give it all and your impact will be felt long after you leave. To the freshmen and sophomores, you guys are going to get this done... I can feel it. And to any recruits out there reading this...sign up to become part of something special, because it's going to be a ride! I can't wait to see the future unfold. Beat Navy!

GBK: Litmus Test for Army this weekend vs. Wake Forest

The Army Black Knights can ill afford to enter into game four with an 0-3 record, knowing that Penn State and Duke represent games 5 & 6, respectively.

Clearly for Army, Saturday’s match-up against Wake Forest at Michie Stadium is where the rubber will really meet the road for the Army Black Knights and their 2015 football season.

But, you are the Army faithful ... how do you see the importance of Saturday’s game versus Wake Forest as it relates to the balance of the football season and when we say football season, we mean to say, WINNING FOOTBALL SEASON!

But, what say ye Army fans? We want to hear your thoughts!

Whats happening at Fullback?

After quarterback the most critical player on offense is the fullback. Replacing Dixon is not going to be easy. The UPPERCLASSMEN are Giachinta 6/1 223 a senior and Kemper 5/6 212 a junior. Giachinta has the most experience but Kempers low center of gravity with dense body weight means he may have powerful leg drive. There are also two plebes who look very interesting both for depth and possibly making some noise. Darrel Wollfolk at 5/10 215 is coming from the prep school and may be ready to compete.. Drue Harris is a direct a 6 / 223. ITS INTERESTING that he is a 2 star with a 5.4 rivals rating. One more point and he would have been a 3 star
I would be interested if anyone has seen the early scrimmages to see who is getting the plays and who might be showing well. ALSO I would love to hear other thoughts and opinions on this vital position

GBK Update!!!

From where I sit, one of the unique aspects of coaching college football is that you have do your best to win now, but in the context of that, also recruit and develop new talent yearly.

In each of the first three games this season, we have seen at least 1-2 freshmen in each contest step up to the plate with solid performances. From Jordan Asberry, the progression of OLB Kenneth Brinson, perhaps one of the best runs of the year was Christian Drake’s 28 yard burst in the 3rd period against Wake Forest and of course Brandon Jackson’s performance last Saturday as well.

At Tuesday’s press conference, we asked Coach Monken if there some satisfaction that he and his staff have knowing that they are already beginning to see the fruits of their recruiting labor relative to players that they have specifically recruited to fit your program? Well, you heard his response through our press conference audio posted on the the GBK front page yesterday.

But we also caught up with Brinson and Jackson after Tuesday’s practice and we will have that interview session/article up for you early this afternoon, so keep right here on GoBlackKnights.com.
