Some thoughts on our recruiting - long post

The last thing we need here is yet another recruiting thread. But my subject matter here is a bit different. If you are one of those fans who views questioning the Army Football program in any manner as being disloyal, please do not read this.

Let me caveat my comments by saying that I am excited about the 2023 recruiting class! We appear to have some awesome talent coming in. Maybe the best class in the Monken era (as others here have stated). AND, I want Army to win football games more than anyone else I know. All of that said, I am concerned about our recruiting practices. I see we are up to 101 commits now. That's right... 101. And they keep coming. According to the Rivals data base, this is the most commits of any school ever (at least for as long as they have recorded Rivals history). It's more than we have ever done, and more than our sister academies (I don't believe AFs numbers). I get the idea that we are not limited to the NCAA caps on athletic scholarships. And we need to do it this way in order to increase our odds of being competitive, The law of averages says that some of these 101 will be accepted, stay in school, and develop into very good players. I just don't know where you draw the line. Why don't we reserve 200 slots for football players? Why not 300? There is just something that feels wrong to me about our Alma Mater bringing this many players in. The admissions office is tasked with the job of recruiting candidates that best support the mission of USMA. In my book that does not likely mean we should take over 100 football commits. I don't know what the right number is, but this feels over the top. And I am not sure it is 100 percent fair to the kids either. I know former players who have been cut, who didn't even realize that the team made annual cuts until they arrived on post. Bringing in 8 or 9 quarterbacks? I'm not sure. I am truly interested in comments. If 101 isn't too many... then how many is too many? Should there be any limit? Who should decide? Are we truly advancing USMA's mission by allowing this many commits? By the way... I understand how the attrition thing works. I understand that many won't even get accepted. The question still stands. Ask yourself, if AF was bringing in 101 and we were bringing in 50, would you cry foul? You better believe I would be screaming.

The Inside Stuff If you haven't already, please subscribe to the GBK YouTube page

As most of you know, there is a notable difference between YouTube and Podcasts, albeit in the medium of presentation. YouTube is visual, while podcasts are auditory or at least from a definition standpoint. That being said, both platforms effectively reach their target audience and that is our commitment here on GoBlackKnights.com.

But we also would like your support in two simple ways.

First, please subscribe to the GBK YouTube page and secondly, get the word out to your network. Thank you.

OT: I know that it is March Madness, but I have come to dislike the NBA & College basketball

I grew up loving basketball at all levels, but just like baseball and football, I have been disappointed in how the nature of the games have changed.

When it comes to basketball ...

... In No Particular Order

1. Players carrying the ball versus dribbling.

2. No traveling call by refs which is constant.

3. No defense, especially by so-called "big men", who have no jumping ability and hence no shot-blocking talent, plus the flopping (aka King James).

4. Whining after EVERY call by the refs.
