GBK Update:Annual Black & Gold Spring Game and Junior Day Coverage

Stayed tuned for tons of video interviews Head Coach Jeff Monken, QB Ahmad Bradshaw, CB Josh Jenkins. Did we mentioned former players like Mike Viti, Caleb Campbell, Aaron Alexander, along w current recruits like Rivals 3-star LB Dallas Jeanty and so many others. Not to mention some of the several 2015 commits who were on hand and game highlights as well photos that capture the entire day.

Some outstanding performances today from Jenkins, whose INT and return may have been the highlight of the day, but then again, so was safety Xavier Moss' pic and return, as well as surprise performance from FB Aaron Kemper.

"Army West Point Black Knights Cadets The Corps."

Navy Twitter: "To recap, this is what Army is going by: Army West Point Black Knights Cadets The Corps."

I like the new logo compared to the old knight. I always liked the Athena Pallas helmet/sword motif (especially shield relief on Herbert). I read people who don't like the sword looking as if its cutting through the helmet and thats a fair point.

As to the rest of the changes I don't know how much comes from West Point and how much comes from Nike. I read a lot of the same jargon on other sites where Nike has shuffled the deck

"Georgia is tweaking its uniforms in an effort to promote a consistent and unified look across its teams...McGarity said Georgia and Nike have worked during the past 15 months to "better define and align our athletic branding, which includes things such as marks, logos, typography, fonts used on uniforms, facility signage, apparel and the like."

Nearly all 15 of Georgia's sports used a different font, whether it was letter or numbers. Now Georgia will have brand identity guidelines that embrace the history and tradition of Bulldogs athletics while still reaching an expanding audience, McGarity said."

What I thought was an Army special project, now seems part of broader Nike formula

I understand there is complaint about people not getting that Army and West Point are the same, but I don't understand trying "to help" the crowd that doesn't get it by juggling the name.

On one hand, I've read people wanted to emphasize West Point academics. That's fair since I know West Point has has substantial egineering and science traditions (infrastructure construction, astronauts etc). On the other hand, I know how the military culture is resented by some and they would like to see a "kinder/gentler " USMA that's just a Stanford with camo and more PT.

Don't call them Army!

GBK: William James Update

Although I won't go into a lot of detail and will wait for this to play out ... here is the latest on QB William James.

Yes, he has de-committed from Army and committed to Air Force, but in my Sunday conversation with the James, he confirmed that his pledge to the Falcons at this stage of the process is now what we at Rivals label as "soft" versus solid. Of course, one could argue that solid or soft from James regarding his pledge anywhere is neither here nor there and I understand how fans could feel that way.

What is also understandable when it comes to many 17-18 year old student-athletes when it comes to weighing what college is the right fit ... especially when are considering two academies like West Point and Air Force, it's not always as simple as 1,2,3. But of course as fans of a particular school, there's always that sense that what other program is better than ours {smiling}.

With that being said, James spoke highly of Army slotback coach, Tucker Waugh who has been handling his recruiting and Waugh is one of the primary reasons that James is still open to Army, along with some other factors of course.

Like some recruits, along with their parents/family .... serving, along with what your service may be upon graduation is also one factor that eventually caused James "some" concern.

He also weighed the type offense that both programs run and initially felt that he would enjoy playing in the Air Force offense more, because that seem to be more open to the passing game that Army. His follow up conversations with the Army staff made it clear that passing was not an option {no pun intended} in 2014, because they offense did not have anyone at QB that was a legitimate college level passer and that obviously does not come as a surprise to any of the Black Knights' fan base who watched the offense last season ... it just wasn't Angel Santiago's strong point.

So, where are we now with regard to James' college status? Well, he will be sitting down over the next 2-3 days and weighing the pros & cons. And by Wednesday the latest, he will make his final decision .... Army or Air Force.

Rebranding and Football Unis

This may be considered pole vaulting over mouse turds; but,

I read top to bottom, left to right.

All the photos of the new uniforms have Army on the front and West point on the back.; consistent with the new brand Army West Point.

However, Football uniforms have the new logo on the front, Army on the usual name plate area and West Point on the helmet. Which if we read to my convention, top down left right, would read West Point Army.. This is not the new brand.

To support the new branding (and to support my reading convention), the football unis could be:

o Army on the front. West Point on the name plate in the back.

o Army on the front. West Point on the helmet. Player's name in the area for the name plate.

Really like the new logo and unis.

Still sorting through the need, meaning, effects of "Army West Point".

Beat Fordham!

OT: Official Master Thread

For those that are big golf fans like myself today is like Christmas morning. Mr. Nicklaus, Mr. Palmer and Mr. Player start things off in golfs greatest event at 7:40am. We already had magic with Jack's hole in one yesterday, one that he jokingly predicted.

Tiger is back...or is he? I don't recognized the guy who says he is Tiger. This one is smiling, laughing, hugging competitors and really enjoying life. I'm not sure it is the Tiger we watched the past 20 years but I love this version!

GBK Recruiting Update: Weekend Visitors (4/10)

As you probably gathered by now, when it comes to Head Coach Jeff Monken and his staff, recruiting is non-stop for the Black Knights and this weekend is no different. There will be at least four recruits making their way for their unofficial visit to West Point. The most notable of the group is Rivals 3-star running back prospect, Yeedee Thaenrat. He arrives at 8am, where he will connect with the coaching staff and will get a tour of the campus, football facilities, etc. Like all recruits, he will eventually make his way down to the practice field where the team will do a few sessions of practice and then the actual scrimmage that is scheduled for today. Scheduled to join Thaenrat are Prince Smith, Noah Douglas and Issac Lutz.
