We are excited about competition at the QB position and see many reasons for improvement in the defense. Against Navy we caught them off guard with some legit efficiency throwing the ball. As I noted in another post, we still will run the ball approaching 90% of our snaps. The offensive production has be going down for 4 straight years. Without a deep analysis of yards produced by the very real RB by committee system used last year, who is going to emerge as a real 1000 yard running threat with focus outside the QB position?
The erosion of offensive effectiveness driven by the steady increase in 3 and outs puts pressure on our still undersized defense. We also face a big, yet unaddressed matter in the punting game that had been quite capably handled the last several years. Getting to 3rd and 1 , 2 or 3 is how we win 6-7 instead of 3-4. Can with make that step forward given the talent available on the roster today ? If so who are the top breakout candidates ? One more important factor - would assume those with best chance of staying healthy along with the skill will lead this pack.
