Football Recruiting TBT: The 2019 Army Recruiting Class

If you know anything about Army football recruiting, it is a given that retention (even before the transfer portal was the norm) surrounding the Black Knights program is perhaps higher than most other major college football programs.

There are many factors that play into that and perhaps the most apparent comes in four words … It Is West Point! Meaning, that carrying the demand and load of being a Division I football player and a West Point Cadet is something that other players at other programs could not even fathom.

As such, some of the players that commit to Army West Point recognize that firsthand. Some opt to leave the academy as a whole, while others step away from playing but remain at the academy as cadets and future Army officers.

Well, we have this TBT surrounding the 2019 recruiting class. It has been a few years now since these young men said yes to attending West Point and playing for the Black Knights. Whereby several members of this group have not only remained at the academy but have added value to what is a stellar college football program, as noted by the CBS Sports Network's recent tweet.

There have been players like Andre Carter, who has received more preseason accolades than any Army player in recent memory. You have Captain Connor Bishop, Tyrell Robinson, Tyson Riley, Jordyn Law, Ay’ Jaun Marshall, Spencer Jones, Maurice Bellan along with up-and-coming players like D’Andre Tobias, Boris Nicolas-Paul, and Isaiah Fillisi.

What are your thoughts regarding this 2019 recruiting class?

Broughton West Point Corps of Cadets 1st Regimental Commander.

1st Regimental Commander Marquel
Broughton is a business management
major from Lawrenceville, Ga., and Co-
Captain of the Army West Point Football
team. He served as the Summer Garrison
Regimental Commander for Cadet Summer
Training, earned the German Armed Forces
Proficiency and Recondo Badges and was
recently nominated for the Allstate AFCA
Good Works Team, an award that
celebrates academic dedication, exemplary
community service and impact on the field
"West Point inspires me every day, and I
am thankful for so many classmates and
mentors in my life. I am inspired by Col.
Woodruff and his family for treating me like
family and welcoming me in their home
when I need it the most, Col. Archie Bates
for challenging me to step up as a leader
on the football field, and finally, to Cpt.
Shawn Robertson for pushing me to strive
for excellence in all pillars at the academy.
Further, my mother and family were in
inspiring me to come to West Point. I was
so inspired about how becoming a part of
The Long Gray Line would help change the
trajectory of my life and family's life which
compelled me to serve my country and my
family. It is a great honor to be selected as a
Regimental Commander. I am thankful for
the opportunity. It means the world to me
to be selected out of all the great Cadets in
the class of '23”
