OT: Army Wrestling takes 3rd at EIWAs (highest finish since 2008)

Army wrestling had a solid (not great) performance at EIWAs. They had 6 automatic qualifiers for NCAAs. We may get an at-large at 149 too. You can read all the details at goarmywestpoint.com. We finished behind Lehigh who dominated the tourney and Cornell, and beat Navy who finished 4th.

125- Chalifoux (5th- AQ)*
133- Wert (5th)
141- Shie (7th)
149- Ogunsanya (5th) - I think he may have a shot at an at-large bid to NCAAs. Only the Top 4 get AQs at 149. He had some really tight matches and beat the kid from Lehigh in the 5th place match that he had lost to in the quarterfinals.
157- Hartman (3rd- AQ)* - I think him and Harvey have the best chance to do damage in Minnesota and get on the podium.
165- McCormick (4th-AQ)*
174- Harvey (3rd-AQ)* - Ben is peaking at the right time. He had 2 WBFs, a MD, and his only loss was to Spencer Carey 5-2 in the semi's. Ben had a really strong tourney overall and missed the podium by one bout last year. I think he has a real shot.
184- Stewart (4th-AQ)*
197- Brown (4th-AQ)* - JT is only a sophomore and came into the tourney as a 6-seed. He had a really impressive run and lost a close bout to the eventual champion. Was probably the pleasant surprise of the tourney for Army.
285- Sullivan got injured in the 2nd round and had to medical default in the wrestle-backs. He's done for the year.
Army should stay in the Top 20 in the NWCA poll after our showing. We entered ranked 17th just ahead of Cornell.

Army misses Opportunity for 4th Winning Season in 40 years

Well, it's still only three winning seasons in the past 40 years for Army Men's Basketball ('84-'85, '12-'13, '15-'16). They lost the tourney game to Lafayette tonight, 73-68.

I didn't really think it was likely that they were going to beat Lafayette for a third time in a season. Army never led and was down by as much as 18 in the second half. A late surge put them within striking distance in the final two minutes; they were within four twice with the ball but couldn't score. 3 of 8 for the team from the foul line didn't help, but it wasn't decisive. Wilson had a bit of an off night scoring 15 points on 7-17 from the field. Funk had 21 pts playing his usual 40 minutes. The factor lacking for Army in this game was that neither King nor Grayson contributed much. They shot a combined 5 of 18 from the field and 0 for 3 at the foul line.

On the bright side, achieving a .500 season record ties this season's team with the '14-'15 team for the fourth best record over the past four decades, and they finished much better than the early season play indicated they would.

Conversely, unless Jimmy Allen has some surprising Plebe talent rising out of the Prep School or the recruiting pipeline, Next year is likely a bottom four finish in the Patriot League. They have a number of experienced players returning, but I don't think their level of talent stacks up well compared to what other teams across the Patriot League will have coming back.

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he'd commuted the prison sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed from office in 2009 on corruption charges, and pardoned former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik.

The news comes hours after Trump signed an executive order granting a full pardon to former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. related to a decades-old corruption charge.

Blagojevich, 63, was sentenced in 2011 to 14 years in federal prison on corruption charges related to his solicitation of bribes in an attempt to "sell" the Senate seat Barack Obama left open after being elected president.

Kerik was sentenced in 2010 to four years in prison after pleading guilty to eight felony charges, including tax fraud.

Trump, who's repeatedly floated the idea of pardoning Blagojevich, told reporters that the former Illinois governor had received "a tremendously powerful, ridiculous sentence."
