How many of you played high school and perhaps college sports?

I know most of us are fans now, but I am sure that many of us also played some sport in high school or even multiple sports. But also, so of us may have played at the collegiate level as well.

So, if you are open to saying what sports you played in high school and college, it would be a great way to engage. And if by chance you want to elaborate and say where you played at those levels, even greater.

I will start. I played football and baseball at Farrell High School (Staten Island), but didn't play in college.

Another proposed rule change on cut blocks

Is this proposed rule change harmful to option offenses?

  • No, nothing to worry about. This is all about player safety.

“After four days of meetings in Indianapolis, the committee also recommended penalizing all open-field blocks below the waist.

It occurs to me that this change would prevent our slot backs and wide receivers from cut blocking on the perimeter and also down field.

Is this a problem for Army? I personally think this is coming from D coordinators who hate having to prepare for option offenses.

How can this be about safety? We are talking about 180 lb slot backs and 200 lb wide receivers.

I’d especially like to hear from people with coaching experience. Is this a problem for our offense or not?

I am concerned. This feels like part of a Long March strategy to eventually eliminate cut blocks in the tackle box.

Football Wish List

Hopefully this will spark a little conversation as we are in the doldrums of sports right now (at least until March Madness begins).

What is on your wish list for the 2022 season? Defensive scheme changes? Offensive changes? Play concepts?

Don't just toss out "throw the ball more" type generalizations. I'm looking for in depth thoughts on what you'd hope to see.

I'll start us out here: Trips formations and combo passing concepts. I coached the flexbone offense (granted at the high school level), but we lived in trips. We'd even go heavy (tackle over) to the trips side and away from the trips side to see what kind of numbers we'd get to run the ball. We also had built in checks for different concepts when the defense gave us certain looks. It was basically RPO before it was trendy. However, we didn't have the run read as it works now. If the defense lined up like "this", then we might run mid-triple. But, if the defense lined up like "that", then we'd run a combo passing route to attack that third of the field.

I really wish that we'd see trips utilized in both run and pass concepts. Army doesn't have to sling it around like Western Kentucky but a little variation to the offense formations would be nice along with some simple combo passing concepts to stress the secondary and LB's.

Football Recruiting GBK Recruiting Update: Here’s What Happening On The Recruiting Front

As you can see, recruiting has picked up big time with the Army staff going 110 MPH, which has netted tons of new offers and even one early commit from DT Matt Gemma.

So we just want to keep abreast of some of the upcoming events and related recruiting dates.

  • For example, Knight on the Hudson will be held on June 10th and July 29th.
  • The Junior Days are every Saturday during spring practice and the Friday of the spring game.
  • By the way, Spring Practice kicks off on March 25th. However, it actually could be started earlier if the team finishes all our 4th quarter warrior workouts early. Meaning it could start on March 24th.
