Coaching Candidates

I know this is not very timely. I hope JM is our coach for several more years. But living in SoCal, it boggles my mind how SDSU coach Rocky Long has never come up in our coaching searches. He ran the TO in college. He has an affinity for this offense and would run it if he could recruit SoCal kids to play it. Has had tremendous success 75% winning percentage against it. He has avg 9 wins over the last 5 years with SDSU, he never won less than 4 games. Had taken New Mexico to bowls. Recently won 2 MWC titles. another bowl game today , caning Cinci. I dont think the athletes he gets are very much beyond Academy athletes. They are a team I have seen us play live and the eyeball test proves my previous statement. I think there is a good chance we chose RE over him just bc RE brother attended WP. If for some reason JM implodes over the next few years he should be at the top of our list.

The Inside Stuff GBK back on the grid!

We have ‘unofficiallly’ been off the grid for a few days, because of the Christmas Holidays, but we have caught our 2nd wind and will back in the flow of things.

There is much unfolding with under the recruiting umbrella with upcoming scheduled official visits, hot prospects, the staff supplementing recruiting with both McCartney and Mitjans no longer with the program.

As you can imagine --- some recruits are often wondering what has happen; where do I go from here, is the staff still interested; I’ve developed a relationship with my recruiting coach ... now what?; etc.

Then of course, there is the question of who are the coaching prospects on Monken’s radar to replace both Mitjans and McCartney?

My Holiday Gift to GBK!

On a real serious note. I have been on this site for several years and honestly, it gets better and better. From Charles’ obvious insight to the football program and I personally know that this staff embraces GBK, not to mention how he effectively manages the site and the message boards. Then the staff itself .... I absolutely love the analysis and detail from GBK’s writer Gordon Larson, AM’s recruiting information (daily) are the best around when it comes to Army football. I also enjoy Maddy Daugherty’s video interviews and all the GBK photos.

So, what is my point? Well, I realized that I have an inner circle of friends that are huge Army football fans and I decided to purchase annual subscriptions for 4 folks.

This is killing two birds with one stone (aka GBK subscription). First, it’s a sincere Christmas gift and secondly, it also says that I support GBK, not just in word but in deed.

I hope others consider following my lead because I think sometimes we forget what we have when sometime what we have is no longer around.

Recruiting Periods Clarfication

I continue to be confused be the recruiting calender.

According to the calendar posted on Friday, we are in a "dead" period which I thought precluded all contact except phone calls.

The calendar also says we are in a "quiet" period.

Nice artcle about Coach DeWitt's visit with various recruits in Florida. And, love and respect the work ethic of this staff.

So, two questions: 1) How is the overlap of "dead" and "quiet" reconciled? And, 2) May we attend and actively recruit at post season all-star games during these period, eg. The Polynesian All Star Game?

A Very Bright Future - 3 Key Areas That Prove It

GBK family l must be honest and throw this out there. During the infamous 14 game losing streak Navy has had a distinct advantage over us in three crucial areas: 1) Coaching; 2) QB play; 3)Talent/Depth. However, changes are being made before our eyes and our future looks extremely bright! Let me explain why I am so optimistic and do so using the three key areas mentioned above:

1) Coaching - For most of the current losing streak Navy has had Paul Johnson and Ken Niumatalolo manning their sidelines. Even though it is ingrained in us to not like the "Squids" you have to give them credit and respect for hiring these two great coaches. Johnson has gone on to revive the GT program and Niumatalolo has guided Navy to 8 straight wins over us. The great news is that over the past two years Coach Monken and staff have closed the coaching gap. In fact I would say that they out coached their Navy counterparts this year in our game. We know for a fact that we are keeping our head coach and continuity on the coaching staff which will be to our advantage moving forward. Navy not so much...

Coaching - Advantage Army

2) QB Play - For the past 14 years we have rolled through some less than stellar QB play while Navy has run out guys like Dobbs and Reynolds. And yes Reynolds is the second best QB in the history of Navy football only behind some stud named Roger Staubach who won the Heisman Trophy. Not exactly a fair fight. In every offense the QB is the most important player. Poor QB play has caused us to underperform in overall decision making under center and in the TO battle. And over the past 14 years we have not consistently exploited the third option in the triple option which is the pitch to the slot back. CC did a much better job over the past two games of using that option, attacking the outside and our offense looked much better moving the ball (sans the turnovers). He is a Plebe and will only improve moving forward so I think we win this battle over the next few years.

QB Play - Advantage Army

3) Talent/Depth - For those who follow our recruiting wars over the past two seasons we have out recruited our service academy rivals (if you believe the "Rankings"). Navy had 10 senior starters on offense and are losing a bunch of really good players. Reynolds to name an important one. We are young and will improve with experience. Watch the final recruiting rankings for the Class of 2016. We will again have a better ranked class than Navy or Air Farce. Our talent and depth is improving. Going forward I do not want to hear anyone use the excuse that we are not as talented as our counterparts. Because it is simply not true.

Talent/Depth - Even

Summary
I have played for this great program and then followed it "religiously" since R-Day in 1990. We have been in a valley for a while and we are cresting the hill right now. I have watched Air Farce's program steadily decline over the past 3-4 years. Navy should lose a great coach and will decline as well. We have a competitive advantage in 2 of the 3 key areas listed above. I see a new streak starting and it will be Army West Point winning C-I-Cs starting next season. Book it and book us for at least 8 wins and a bowl game next season. The time is now!!!

GEAUX ARMY - BEAT'EM ALL!!!

GBK: Two former Black Knights meet on the NFL gridiron again

Once again, a pair of former Army Black Knights were at it again, this time it was Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos in a evening thriller, as the Steelers hung on to win, 34-27.

There was Alejandro ‘Ali’ Villanueva starting at offensive tackle for the Steelers, while Tony Coaxum with the Broncos as Asst. Special Teams Coach.

During Ali’s 4-year football tenure at Army, Coaxum was the team’s CB coach. But like Ali, TC also showcased his college football talents wearing the Black & Gold of Army from 1996-2000.
