Our sources tell us that Donavon is not coming back to West Point and that he’s going to UVA.
This post, Charles, pretty much captures, in a nutshell , the disgusting, uncontrolled environment that is out there for anyone to take advantage of.I can’t speak for the Virginia Rivals site, but once again, our sources have stated that Virginia offered him $650k. Unless he somehow pulled a fast one and is going to Wake Forest, who was also in on him … he’s going to UVA.
He couldn’t turn it down. It started out at $100k and they negotiated all the way up to $650k. It’s amazing to me that UVA was that “eager” (I think of a few other adjectives) to wait on an Army CB this long.
Seriously and they already signed 5 DB’s from the portal. So, you can draw your own conclusions.
I agreee with what you said. That's what i said in my comment earlier. Money will get you somewhere but when it comes to education and by throwing away one of the best in the trash for money Im sorry IMO that's horrible. Lets just hope he doesn't bounce around like other kids are doing? To draw on Charles comment about Mayes withdrawal from the Portal:
Evidently, a chance to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference was more important to Platt than a West Point diploma.
I don't necessarily agree that West Point is the only college out there where the degree means something. UVA is quality institution and if Platt graduates from there, then he has a degree from a reputable institution and $650k in his pocket. So, where is he wrong in that particular decision? Maybe I am missing something that some of you are getting that is flying over my head.I agreee with what you said. That's what i said in my comment earlier. I guess it depends on Platt actually getting his degree from UVA.I don't necessarily agree that West Point is the only college out there where the degree means something. In due time we shall see!I guess it depends on Platt actually getting his degree from UVA.
I respectfully disagree! UVA might give you a comparable academic experience but there is no way that they can replicate the consummate leadership training and character building that comes from the West Point experience! The controlled “SUCK” factor is not replicated anywhere in the country or world for that matter!I don't necessarily agree that West Point is the only college out there where the degree means something. I’m a ‘76 grad and everyday was a bear (suck) in one form or another (academics or PT or military or all three). That form of juggling and character-building exists NO WHERE.What does controlled suck factor mean?
Yes hope he doesn’t bounce around like other kids lol.In due time we shall see!
That's pretty funny or even hypocritical when my guess is that the majority of folks on this message board who are professionals, and that compensation was one of the talking points when it came to their job decision. This country is DRIVEN on net worth and we hear and see that every single day from this administration. So, now when a young man has OPTIONS, we say he is tempted by a shiny penny, while promoting that shiny penny in almost every aspect of our lives here in the this country. Many times, Cadets hate West Point and complain constantly. My son - who graduated in 2015 - (about to be promoted to Major) - was one of the biggest complainers. When he graduated, he vowed to never visit West Point again and get out of the Army when his 5-year obligation was over.
I knew he would see the value of West Point after he matured a few years.
The Army has sent him to graduate school getting a Masters in Nuclear Engineering and scheduled to be an instructor at West Point next year.
Important to look at the big picture and not be tempted by a "shiny penny".

I am a retired (West Point) officer with 33 years active duty. I do not believe the vast majority of long-term military officers are motivated primarily by money - otherwise they would not spend much of their lives in the military. If money is the prime motivator of a young man or woman - not a career in the Army - then West Point might not be the best option. That's pretty funny or even hypocritical when my guess is that the majority of folks on this message board who are professionals, and that compensation was one of the talking points when it came to their job decision. Good story and hats off to you, as well as your son. However, my guess is that there are tons of West Point grads whose motivation is not to become a military officer, but graduate, put in their time and move on to other professional endeavors.I am a retired (West Point) officer with 33 years active duty. Make whatever you want from this short story. When my son entered WP, there was another entering young man from the same Congressional District. He openly said that he wanted a WP degree because his uncle -big shot in Wall Street - told him that if he got a prestigious WP degree, he would hire him. Incidentally, he did not make it thru WP - probably because he was not really motivated to be an Army officer.
Charles the money appears good. UVA is a good university, but it does notI can’t speak for the Virginia Rivals site, but once again, our sources have stated that Virginia offered him $650k. Unless he somehow pulled a fast one and is going to Wake Forest, who was also in on him … he’s going to UVA.

I'm pretty sure that Charles "can't turn down the money" comment is coming from the sources. That being said and like you stated, I wish him the best going forward. By the way, when it comes to the NFL, Platt has a long way to go no matter if he stayed here or heads to Virginia.Charles the money appears good. UVA is a good university, but it does not
compare to what a degree from West Point will mean for someone down the road. Further based on the track record under Coach Monken and the development of football talent at West Point (think 6 o6 7 are in the NFL), West Point would afford him a better opportunity to play on Sunday than UVA if that were his goal. I wish him luck
