OT: Browns hold NFL's largest national anthem protest as more than 10 players kneel

I sincerely have mixed emotions about this entire topic that really took off with Colin Kaepernick's display last year. I recognize his right to protest and the cause for which he is doing it and now others to draw attention to the issue. However and IMO, it has drawn more attention to the protest than the reason for the protest.

It is pretty much a no brainer when you are at Michie Stadium or the Army-Navy game during the National Anthem, but I have been to other sporting events where the fans don't acknowledge the playing of the anthem at all and are drinking, talking, yelling and all other sorts of gestures.

Why do we have the National Anthem played in certain venues that don't respect it? A part of me says, let's do away with the playing of the National Anthem in those places where people do not respect it or want to use it for their own purposes. The people (fans) who love our country will make their voices heard. The opportunity for one to pay the proper respect during the playing of our National Anthem is a privilege, not a right.

Example1: Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Guard at 4:50 corrects the crowd.

Example 2: Va Tech basketball Coach teaches his players.

As Ruth Bader Ginsburg said of the situation last year: 'I think it's dumb and disrespectful'. The Revolution, Civil War and WWII were won under that flag. Black soldiers fought and died under it. No flags have seen more glory and many have more stains. Not that the US flag never had stains and still doesn't (all kinds of sins still going on in America) but the sum is still greater than any parts. In truth, the origins of the black protests vs the flag stem from old, white socialists/communists who always sought/seek to radicalize minorities of any kind

My take on the flag and slavery is summed up by a former slave - William Henry Singleton - who met with Lincoln, raised 1000 men for the Union Army and fought in the Civil War war:
