Buffalo (3-4) lost at Eastern Michigan (2-4) 27-37. Buffalon had 537 yards of total offense but was unproductive in the red zone scoring only 1 TD and 2 FGs in 6 trips.

Stanford (4-2) beat Washington State (2-5) 34-17. Stanford jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back outscoring WSU in every quarter.

Wake Forest (2-4) had a bye

Yale (3-1) was edged by Dartmouth (3-1) 31-38. Yale scored first and led most of the game holding a 31-28 lead at the start of the 4th quarter, but Dartmouth tied it up at 31 all and then scored a TD with 2:20 left in the game for the win.

Kent State (0-6) was beaten by UMass (1-6) 17-40. Kent got on the scoreboard first with a FG, and led 10-7 after exchanging TDs, but UMass scored 17 unanswered points to take a 24-10 lead at half and outscored KSU 13-0 in the final quarter.

AFA (4-1) fumbled the game to Utah State (4-2) at Logan 13-34. Utah State struck quickly with a 75 yard passing TD on their first play from scrimmage and added a second after AFA fumbled the ball away on their own 43 on their first possession and Utah had an early 14-0 lead. AFA threatened to score on their second possession, but USU knocked the ball out of Pearson's hands on the 2 yard line and the ball rolled out of the end zone for a touchback. After USU was forced to punt, AFA got on the scoreboard with a 37 yard FG to make it 14-3. USU was forced to punt on their next possession, and Brown recovered his own fumble to keep possession. AFA drove to the USU 24, where Brown appeared to have fumbled again, but the fumble was overturned on review and AFA got its second FG of the game to close to 14-6. After a USU three and out, Pearson threw his first INT of the season, but the Aggies were unable to capitalize and USU was forced to punt. Romine came into the game for Pearson and was unable to move the ball; so USU got it back on their own 40 and drove for a TD to make it 21-6. Romine threw the second AFA INT on their next possession, but this time USU turned it into a FG to make the score 24-6. USU scored another TD before the half to make it 31-6. AFA got the opening kickoff in the second half but had to punt it away, and then AFA stopped USU on a 4th down to get the ball back on their own 40. Pearson returned to the game and led the team on its only TD drive of the game to close the gap to 31-13 at the end of the third quarter. AFA blocked a punt attempt to start the 4th quarter but had to settle for a FG. USU took the next possession to the AFA 17 but missed the FG attempt. USU got one more FG to end the scoring. AFA entered the game with a plus 7 in turnover margin, all from the Boise State game, and left Logan with a plus 3.

UConn (1-5) lost to Tulane (2-4) 3-12, in a display of impoverished offenses by both teams. Tulane recovered 2 UConn fumbles and picked off a pass to win the turnover battle. Tulane scored a TD, a FG and a Safety, while holding UConn to a single FG. UConn was held to 76 yards rushing and 141 passing while Tulane mustered just 167 rushing and 135 passing.

WKU had a bye

Fordham (5-1) beat Penn (0-4) 60-22. Penn scored first and led 10-7 before Fordham took control of the game to take a 35-13 lead at the half and cruised to the win against winless Penn of the Ivy League.

Navy (3-4) routed hapless FCS opponent VMI (1-5) 51-14. Tago Smith took over for the injured Keenan Reynolds and VMI was unable to contain the Navy offense as Navy rolled to a 40-7 halftime lead and cruised from there. VMIs first TD came off a recovery of a Smith fumble in the end zone, and their second TD came in the waining minutes of the game. The Navy defense contributed 9 points on a pick 6 and a safety. Navy had 350 yards rushing and 432 yards of total offense. Prior to this game, VMI had given up an average of 43 points per game and 508 yards of total offense. VMI's only win this season was against Davidson. Navy had an INT to go with the fumble and lost the turnover battle 2-1 to go -5 for the year.

GK65- Thanks for the weekly effort to sum things up. This week offers an interesting and pretty measurable indicator to see where the program is from last year to this year. In 2013 Army's schedule was arguably as weak as any we have played in years. We still managed to lose to An 0-6 Temple team in a game in which we were dominated at home. They finished with 2 wins. Air Force '13 offered a painful reminder of how far we wer away from being truly competitive when the 1-7 Falcons , who beat Patriot team peer Colgate in their only other win of the season, ran away from the Army team in the second half for theri only FBS win of the year. Finally, lest we forgot , we managed to save Hawaii's perfect season by falling to the 0-11 Rainbow Warriors serving as a real forwarning for what laid ahead in Philadelphia 3 weeks hence.

This year we walk into the lair of an 1-6 Kent State Team that just gor beat by perennial cellar dweller Eastern Michigan. Last year when waking into the 3 games identified above, I, for one, felt pretty confident we were in for tough fights and not the least bit surprised we lost. This year, assuming generally good health from starting line-up, I have to believe the new staff can find a way to get over the road record and beat a bad Kent State team.

With that said, I am extremely fearful of losing to 2 FCS teams in the same year. It would be interesting to identify the last established D1 school to accomplish that 1-2 step on the dark side . Given that few D1 (FBS) team have scheduled 2 FCS teams of late, my guess it has been quite awhile.

In the meantime, let's take one at a time and seek improvement as we start the second half of the 2014 season. A win would match the 2011 & 2013 win totals and go one up on the 2012 2-win squad.

Georgia State lost all three games to FCS opponents last season. They may not meet your criterion for an established FBS team, though. There are very few FBS teams that schedule more than one FCS game in a season due to the NCAA limit of one FCS win counting toward bowl eligibility.

Other than Georgia State, I believe the last time a Div 1A team lost to more than one Div 1AA team was 1985.

Research appreciated; Ga. St. did not met my suggested crteria. It has been awhile. Let's hope we can completely avoid the conversation.
