So in JM's fourth year, he has found the elusive unicorn at Army. A playmaker.
Playmaker (n.) - a kid with the ability to make people miss, turn a nice 5-10 yard gain into a breakaway TD run or big play. A kid who can break tackles from a position other than FB (gasp). A kid who has a smokin first gear and hits the hole with a purpose. A kid who makes everyone watching hold their breath whenever he touches the ball because there is just that it factor about his running abilities. See: Nick Chubb, Saquon Barkley, the Love kid at Stanford (no, I am NOT comparing Walker to those kids but it is a relative comparison based on the strength of the program and our opponents).
We first saw flashes of Walker's ability in the Navy game last year. We see it every time we run a rocket toss or hand him the ball in the shotgun. Yesterday, when Rice made the mistake of over committing to stop the FB, we saw it in spades.
Because of JM's offensive philosophy, Walker may never put up Mike Mayweather type numbers, but the kid has "it."
Memo to Brent Davis: Keep being creative and finding ways to get the ball in Walker's hands.
