Analytics were mentioned in Saturday's broadcast and recently in another thread on this board. Clemson was also cited as having a laptop on the sidelines. From the discussions I still don't know if doing so is against NCAA rules.
I remember seeing the movie "Moneyball" where statistical analyses were used in pro baseball. So, I looked up as to how analytics are being used in college football. Was an eye opener for me. Not only are stats being used to understand defensive and offensive tendencies for a given down and distance situation; but also, to look ahead to provide statistical insights for an entire series of downs. Entire books are being bought and sold for a specific week's contest. Of course, they are used in recruiting similar to the A's use in "Moneyball"
Hence, two question:
1). How deep into the use of Analytics are we? And,
2). Is/are Analytics singular or plural?
Go Army! Use regression analysies, correlation, and analyses of variance!
