Phil Steele just released his All Independent Team selections, and IMO, UMass was overrepresented considering their 4-8 record. BYU placed the fewest players on first team offense and defense, but did well on the second team and special teams. Army had 7 players on the first team vs Notre Dame's 8, UMass's 6 and BYU with only 2 on offense and defense and 2 more on special teams.

Army West Point landed 4 players on the first team offense and 3 on second team offense, including four of Army's 5 offensive linemen. I would have included Toth on first team in place of Driscoll from UMass, but otherwise I can't complain. McGlinchery and Nelson from ND are All Americans so they belong on the first team All Independent. Holland, not surprisingly, got the nod at first team center but Boylan was a pleasant surprise at first team guard. Houghton was a good selection on the second team.

It looks like Bradshaw was included as a running back, even though he's listed as one of the two QBs. Steele only included two other RBs on the first team, and one of them was Woolfolk (no surprise either). Walker was another good selection on second team. Steele picked Ford of UMass and Bradshaw ahead of Wimbush of ND at QB. Ford can't run and Bradshaw can't pass, but the combination of the two would be pretty good. With our passing record this year there's no way that either of our WRs or TEs would be considered; so we did as well as can be expected on offense.

Army's three selections on first team defense won't surprise any Army fans: Aukerman, Nachtigal and Voit. They are the most deserving from our defense. Brinson and Gibson were named to the second team, which was reasonable as well. England, McClinton, and Riley missed too many games to get serious consideration; so all in all, it was a good representation.

Schrage was picked second behind Lineham of BYU as a punter, and the stats support that choice.
