I have not posted much lately. But I lurk on the site pretty much daily. I have watched the reaction of our fan base throughout the season so far and it really is a case study in football fan psychology. Before the Ball State game, many were arguing that Army deserved to be a Top 25 team. Many were excited about our stable of B backs, our slots, and yes... our depth at QB. And many were ready to call our defense the greatest D since the '85 Bears. After Ball State... I can summarize many of the comments this way... Our QBs (after Anderson) all suck. We can't throw. We can't execute the true triple option. Our O-Line is now a weak spot. Our OC is unimaginative. Our entire D has been exposed as shaky. Our DC needs to figure out how to stop someone. Our secondary often leaves its jock straps on the field after a simple move by an opposing receiver. Basically, we now suck, and that sucking is pretty much across the board... coaches, players, fans (we don't fill Michie). Maybe even the team managers, the rabble rousers and the band suck too.
And yet, there seems to be a general feeling that we can hang with Wisconsin and Wake Forest. I am not sure I understand that logic. I am sensing extreme bitterness and griping to come soon, especially if we lose both games. And I have news for you. We will be big underdogs in both contests. If you simply look at the odds (I eventually passed Probability and Statistics at WP), then you understand that there is a huge chance that we'll have three losses after Oct 23rd. Selective listeners, I am not saying there is no hope. I expect our guys to play their butts off and I want us to win both of these games. Our team wants it more than we do and I think we have the talent to do it if we play extremely well and some breaks go our way. I will be there at both contests, cheering my lungs out. My point is, if we lose the next two, it does not mean that we suck. It is very possible that we could lose to WI and WF and then run the table.
I get really disappointed when my team loses. All of us do, or we wouldn't be on this board. It would just be refreshing if the highs didn't result in premature predictions of undefeated seasons and the lows didn't result in the "we can't beat my high school team" comments. It will also save the emotional energy of keeping track of (in the opinion of the fan base) who is great and who sucks after each game. I have a spreadsheet to track this but I can't keep up.
End of rant. Beat Bucky.
