This is a subject that has been bounced around by executives within Rivals and myself for some time now, but it was mutually agreed upon that now is probably the best time to address this issue as we continue to see growth with the subscribers here on GoBlackKnights.com. It will serve as an opportunity to speak to both our “newbies” along with our longtime members ... both of whom we appreciate.

Our “competition” is interesting that one might think it comes from the Scout.com Army site, but it is more of marriage/separation relationship with the supported Scout.com site (Army) and a local beat reporter.

Since the Scout.com Army site never (or perhaps rarely is a better term) interviews coaches or players, covers the actual games live, game day chat (e.g., Cover-It-Live Blog/Chat), cover practices, etc .... most of their information comes from their posters themselves or posters who link articles, coverage, etc from the local beat reporter’s blog - this has been going on for years, which is fine with me. Whatever floats your boat.

Why aren’t we overly concern with the said competition? Because we humbly believe that GBK remains the most in-depth coverage of the team from top to bottom and a great relationship with the coaching staff and West Point the institution.

So what is our concern and/or question?

Well, some of our subscribers who have migrated from our Scout.com “competition” ... We now find them bringing those same habits of posting/linking articles, videos, etc. from the local reporter’s blog. We probably wouldn’t have a problem with that, if the opportunity presented itself to post our non-premium or even premium links (e.g., articles, videos, etc.) to that person’s blog, etc.. But as we know, viewers are not always signed into blogs to post but just to view.

Therefore the question that has been out there for some time now is ... should GBK dis-allow links from subscribers to the local beat writer’s blog to be posted on our premium message board? Or, what other alternatives would could be recommended?

To quote one Rivals executive ...

“... To me it's like owning a restaurant and someone bringing McDonald's in and sitting down in your restaurant and eating it. Then talking about how good it is as loud a possible.

I say no, don't allow it.”

The breaking point for us came when a video of the post game (Army-Penn State) press conference was posted on the 12th Knight message board. However, our post game article include the post article included the press conference (albeit audio).

Anyway, after in-depth conversation within the Rivals network leadership, we have made the decision to not allow such links to Scout.com (which doesn’t happen here at all, but worth noting nonetheless) or Sal’s (who is a gentleman from my brief interaction with him) content (e.g., blogs, Twitter, etc.) on our message boards. We are not looking to penalize (banning) anyone for such actions, we just ask that you please be respectful of our decision in this matter.

By the way, if someone would like to say that “I heard from an outside source that X,Y&Z is or has unfolded”, we are presently okay with that type of dialogue.

Thanks in advance for understanding. However if by chance you have any questions and what to reach out to me directly, I welcome the opportunity to engage in conversation around this topic and I can be reached at RivalsGoBlackKnights@gmail.com.

P.S. Please do not copy/paste or share his outside of the 12th Knight message board network. Thank you.
