I read on a different thread, There is nothing ugly about a win like this !! This game gave a number of answers to several moans and groans from our readers:
1. An answer to why Monken would not spread it around to and involve the SBs more --> 186 yards on 15 carries.
2. Monken keeps feeding the B-back and QBs: they had 55 carries for 370 yards. Can we live with that? I say yes sir !
3. Big gainers come from blocked running lanes, so at least six runs over 25 yards says the O-Line blocked well.
4. Dominating running, big holes, got us 556 total on the ground.
5. How about some creative risk taking from the coaches: two 2-point conversions, fake punt.
6. QB arguments have been made: with Ahmad injury and the veteran A.J. showing his coolness under fire gives a sense of comfort we have good QB leadership.
7. Wow, some passing which was timely and not "predictable" to keep the defense honest, along with some good hands shown by receivers.
8. 654 yards and 41:18 time of possession...good job. "Caution": defense allowed 36 points in under nineteen minutes.
9. How about 10/13 3rd downs and 2/2 4th downs converted...that is 12 of 13 potential series stoppers continued. Army was only stopped by ourselves with three turnovers.
10. Ugh... three turnovers, that is a concern.
11. How about that ... a D-1 "road victory".
More Caution:
1. We have been saying and can continue to say the defense is getting better. Case in point No 1st downs allowed in EMich first three drives.
2. But: no sack this game, very few if any QB pressures, and at least twice the secondary was embarrassed with TD passes to wide open receivers.
Yes there is nothing really ugly with a victory like this one. Yes there are lots of continued progress. Yes it was so very pleasing to see a game where Army leads from start to finish. Yes it was exciting to see the Army team win a second half and not fade under the pressure of an opponent gaining momentum in the second half. (getting to 36-30 score, and then Army score three consecutive TDs).
The team, the players, the coaches, our recruits and the fans all needed this one.
How about ... BEAT PENN STATE !!!
