Interesting stuff from Men's Hoops...the Black Knights held their 2nd intersquad scrimmage Wednesday evening. Tweets from Coach Spiker and others indicate the team looks pretty good at this early stage. Defensively, there looks to be significant improvement with a lot of new players that buy into tough, defensive play. Ball movement looks very good, as well, and there are a lot more guys that can light it up from the perimeter this year.

Interesting finish to this scrimmage...the Plebes took on the rest of the team in a final scrimmage of the evening. Remember, last year's USMAPS team totally eclipsed all previous USMAPS teams in terms of wins and domination of other teams. Well, tonight, the Plebes (8 from USMAPS and 3 direct admits) put a thumping on the returning players, 34-20. Tweets from the scrimmage indicated they jumped out to a 7-2 lead against last year's starters (Ellis, Springer, Lenox, Williams, Herbeck) and never looked back. Great signs of good things to come from Spiker's first true recruiting class, which will add tremendous depth to the team and may even find a few in some of the starting positions as the season plays out. Will be interesting to see how this team performs!

Go Army! Beat Navy

Airstrike,
I view this as more negative than positive. Plebes, and yearlings for that matter, tend to be more inconsistent so if we end up relying on plebes I'll expect a lot of inconsistency in our play. This is especailly true at the Academies. Many bad days surround the youngsters at USMA and it's not always easy it shake off. We may win a few we are not supposed to but will find a way to lose games that should be in the "W" column. It will be unusual that we find a way to play our best ball 2-3 times in a row, Naturally, we'd love to peak in late February - early March but looking at Army's track record over the past 20 years, that has rarely been the case. - especailly when we are young. Experience in College BB is the great equalizer , with the exception of teams like Kentucky who recruit 5 of the best 20 players in the country. How do we think that Mid- Conference team find their way deep into the NCAA.

Love the fact that the talent is there but beware of extreme ups and downs given the heavy # of plebes and yearlings getting lots of minutues. Just waiting for the break thru year when we have a winning 8-6 record in the league. It has never happened.

If the plebes beat the returnees, play the damn plebes!!!!!
