I will be providing an in-depth analysis of each game that Army football faces in 2025. I have already posted my analysis about the Army vs. Kansas State game, and the next game I will provide an analysis of is the season opener: Army vs. Tarleton State.

Army football faces a significant challenge when they travel to Manhattan, Kansas, to play Kansas State on September 6, 2025. While Army leads the all-time series 2–0, their last meeting was in 1987. Kansas State, coming off a 9–4 season and a bowl victory, presents a formidable opponent.

Key Factors for an Army Upset

1. Quarterback Performance

With the departure of Bryson Daily, Army's quarterback situation is in flux. Junior Cale Hellums is among the candidates vying for the starting role. The chosen quarterback must manage the game effectively, make quick decisions, and minimize turnovers to keep the offense on track.

2. Offensive Line Cohesion

Army's offensive line, having lost three starters from the previous season, needs to establish chemistry quickly. Their ability to control the line of scrimmage will be crucial in executing the run-heavy offense and keeping Kansas State's defense off balance.

3. Defensive Discipline

Army's defense, which allowed just 15.5 points per game in 2024, must maintain its discipline against a dynamic Kansas State offense led by dual-threat quarterback Avery Johnson. Containing Johnson's mobility and limiting big plays will be essential.

4. Special Teams Impact

Special teams can be a game-changer in closely contested matches. Army must capitalize on field position, execute cleanly on kicks and punts, and look for opportunities to create momentum through special teams plays.

5. Mental and Physical Resilience

Playing on the road against a Power Five opponent requires mental toughness. Army must handle the hostile environment, stay focused, and execute their game plan without succumbing to pressure.

Kansas State's Strengths

  • Avery Johnson (QB): A dual-threat quarterback who threw for 2,712 yards and rushed for 605 yards in 2024, presenting a significant challenge for defenses.
  • Jayce Brown (WR): An emerging star who led the team in receiving, providing a reliable target for Johnson.
  • Linkon Cure (TE): A 5-star recruit and the highest-rated in Kansas State history, expected to make an immediate impact.
  • On defense, there are two players to keep an eye on: LB, Austin Romaine and DB, VJ Payne.

Conclusion

While Army faces a daunting task, a disciplined approach, effective execution, and capitalizing on opportunities can pave the way for an upset. Maintaining composure and sticking to their game plan will be key factors in determining the outcome of this early-season matchup.

Also, please note that I am aware that this season is about taking each game one at a time. We face Tarleton State before Kansas State. I will be providing an in-depth analysis of the Tarleton State game very soon.
