Army-Navy Basketball Game will be at Madison Square Garden

I just noticed that Army’s (or should I say Army West Point’s?) basketball schedule lists the home game against Navy as being played at Madison Square Garden, NYC, NY, Sat, Jan 23, Start time TBD.

It’s also listed as the star game. The Patriot League schedule hasn’t been announced yet, but the normal scheduling pattern for this year would have had Army hosting Navy in the 2nd of their two league games sometime in early February. It means that Boo convinced the Patriot League to move the Army-hosted game to a date when the Garden had an opening.

This will be an intriguing gambit. I presume that giving up home court for a neutral site was in anticipation of a higher attendance and ticket revenue than playing at West Point. The Army-Navy games are usually sell outs, or at least all the seats are filled. Whether this will translate to a decent crowd in NYC remains to be seen. Otherwise, attendance at Army Basketball games is relatively sparse.
