Information on what's going on at AF Academy is hard to come by, so the recently published Media Guide is the first official view of Calhoun's plans for 2016. A few surprises in the depth chart.
1. Romine is not on the top of the depth chart at QB. Right now, the #1 listed QB is Pate Davis, a senior who has appeared in 4 games, but has no rushing attempts of passing attempts. It will be interesting to see if he still holds that spot at the start of the season. Most people expected Romine to get the job, but he's been recovering from a torn ACL, which had people suggesting that Calhoun might back away from the triple option to more of a conventional running game with an increase in passing.
2. Junior Duty-Tyson is listed ahead of seniors Davern and Johnson at FB, which is a bit of a surprise, but not earth shaking since Davern and Johnson were both sidelined with injuries last year.
3. Senior Ryan Watson was moved up from OLB to DE to take the place of last year's leading pass rusher, Hansen. Watson was expected to be a backup OLB this year.
All eleven top spots on the defensive depth chart are occupied by seniors, and 4 of the #2 spots are also seniors; so you have seniors in 15 of the 22 spots on the defense's 2-deep. 7 of the 11 were regular starters last year. The rest were moved up.
The top spots on offense are filled by 6 seniors and 5 juniors, but only 3 of them (Robinette, Owens, and Sandor) were regular starters last season, and 2 of their OLs split the starts at center.
