Army Navy 1963

The game was played in the immediate aftermath of President Kennedys assasination at the request of the Kennedy family. This was one of the most exciting and disheartening football games in the long ARMY NAVY history.
Trailing 21-7 with 6 minutes left in the 4 th qtr QB Rollie Stichweh teamed up with big 6ft 4 half back KEN WALDROP to methodically gash the Navy line and put the ball in the end zone .ARMY followed with a 2 pt conversion making it 21-15. With a little more than 2 minutes remaining Stichweh recovered the onside kick at the Navy 49 yard line. Once again WALDROP went to work cutting 5 and 6 yard chunks out of the Navy defense. Army drove to the Navy 2 yard line with a 5 yard carry by WALDROP. The clock still had about 15 seconds but Stichweh could not quiet the 102,000 thousand fans especially in the enclosed area near the end zone/ The refs called time twice to try and quiet the crowd. On his third attempt Stichweh tried to get another timeout but the Refs let the clock run and time ran out;
The ARMY CROWD WAS STUNNED BEYOND BELIEF . If NAVY had stopped ARMY on the goaline it would have been a great Navy victory but to have never had the chance to run the final play was devastating to the Army faithful. WALDROP had not been stopped for less than 4 yards on the entire drive
Navy led by Rodger Staubach was ranked #2 in the nation. Army had two losses but the winner of the game was to play #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl . IN 1964 ARMY would get revenge AS STICHWEH led Army beat Staubach and the midshipmen 11-8.
This is MY STILL STUNNED RECOLLECTION of the game some 52 YEAS LATER. Others may have thoughts to add.
BEAT NAVY

Official Army vs. Navy game prediction thread

OK, two weeks from now we will know the outcome of the game.
What are your realistic predictions for this game? 6-7 weeks ago I would have given a different response, but I unfortunately predict this Army team will not defeat this very experienced and strong Navy team.
I do believe however it will not be the blow out prognosticators are likely to say in Vegas.
Navy 31 - Army 21

The Inside Stuff GBK: Retention .... Army vs. Navy

There has been much chatter on the 12th Knight on the subject of attrition/retention.

Shortly after he arrived at West Point, head coach Jeff Monken said the three keys to success were Recruiting, Retention, and Development. Here our GBK analysis, as once again, another great job by GBK's Gordon Larson who breaks down the subject of RETENTION: ARMY VS. NAVY

Army Football The winds of change

"Winds in the east, mist coming in. / Like somethin' is brewin' and bout to begin. / Can't put me finger on what lies in store, / But I think what's to happen all happened before." - Bert, from Mary Poppins

Guys, I never thought I would use a quote from Mary Poppins on a football board. But there you have it. It is strangely similar to my feeling about the state of Army Football. I can't quite put my finger on it and I guess it's more instinct than anything. @Indadshonor got me really thinking about this in another thread. There is just something different now than what I have felt in a long, long time. And I think @Indadshonor is correct. We are witnessing change. Something special is happening. Our recruiting, by unbiased measures, is better than I can ever recall. Coach Monken and staff are connecting with young men all over the country. They are communicating a vision and the right kids are responding to it. They want to be part of the most special institution in the U.S. and they want to be part of a truly unique and historical experience - the resurgence of Army Football. There are freshman all over the field, and they will only get better. The team is playing with 'true grit' and a fortitude that is noticeable. That is a credit to those on this team who know that their playing days will end with the Navy game. It's a credit to those who will return. And that's evidence of a consistent winning culture that @Indadshonor refers to as well.

That's all the hard evidence I can give you. But, like Bert, I have a feeling that something magical will happen here. Army is soon to rejoin the ranks of winning football, CiC trophies, and bowl bids. It has all happened before and will happen again soon!

Is there enough magic in the air yet to beat Navy? I don't know. Regardless, it's going to be much more fun to be an Army fan in the next decade. Beat Navy.
