Army Football and home attendance

A lot have complained about a month long road trip to start the season. But what does it say when we cant draw 24k for Rice at 2-0. And we will have a full house for Lafayette? We never draw well in Sept so its hard to fault Boo for back loading home games if that is in fact what hes trying to do. I'm also more unsure then ever who the fan base is. Our viability in FBS going fwd will be predicated on media contracts and revenue. As far as I can tell Boo is doing a good job there but the economic information is hard to come by.

The Inside Stuff Just in case you were not aware!

Perhaps some of you were not aware of this feature, but I have noticed more recently that a few fans here tend to use the "Tweet" button (bottom of each thread) on our premium message board (The 12th Knight) topics (that are good ones) and some on the non-premium football message board.

That being said, I encourage everyone to try this feature out, whereby if you see an interesting thread (topic) on any of our GBK message boards, especially The 12th Knight, please free to Tweet it out there.

Thanks!

Our final drive of the game - seriously?

With 2:56 left in the game, the ball on our on 17 yard line and on first down Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 12 yards. So now we have 1st & 10 at our 29 yard line.

The next play, OC Brent Davis calls for Bradshaw to pass and he's intercepted at the Duke 41 yard line and they take over with 2:17 remaining in the game.

#HorribleDecision by Davis and worse decision by Jeff Monken to allow the play to be run.

Sticking with incumbents too long on offense?

My observation/opinion about our offensive coaches: They tend to stick with the 'established' pecking order too long and at the expense of developing players with more potential. Last year they started Matt Ghiachinta all season and he rarely had a productive game. Darnell Woolfolk barely got into any games last year but clearly he is a better player at FB than Ghiachinta ever was. If we had not lost Kemper and Harris last spring would Andy Davidson have been converted from LB? Perhaps not given this tendency I am noticing.

Last year QB Bradshaw won the starting job over AJ Schurr (who was injured in camp). But then Bradshaw got hurt and/or played poorly and cost us several chances to win games. Only the injuries to Bradshaw and/or AJ Schurr opened up the possibility for Chris Carter to start the final two games. And in those games he started last year CC was statistically our best QB in my opinion. His appearance in games and 'discovery' was mostly due to necessity and not good player development.

This year Chris Carter seemed to have the edge in spring camp. But then he pulled his hamstring in the summer. So starting Bradshaw in the early games made sense. So did giving 3rd possession snaps to Chris Carter. At this point I have to observe that Carter has looked like the better player for the snaps he has had in our games. Why are we not considering starting Chris Carter or at least playing him more? Why have we not planned to transition to Carter once he got healthy and caught up on practice?

Bradshaw is not a come from behind QB. He makes poor decisions under pressure when the game is on the line. Earlier this season he was making consistently good reads on the option. Recently not so much. There were a few plays today when he made the wrong read and failed to give the ball to the FB and then got creamed in the backfield.

I would prefer to see Carter come into games when we are not playing well or need to come from behind. Eventually I would like to see Carter be the starter this season. I think Bradshaw is the QB to finish games where we are ahead and want to eat the clock. I think Bradshaw plays better with a lead than he does when there is time pressure to win at the end of a game.

It can be difficult for a coach to get outside of his bubble and see more than the next game in front of him. I hope that the next two games at home allow some experimentation with players who have the potential to be better than the person starting ahead of them.
