Army Football MAKE SOME NOISE!

Reception Day is upon us and Gordon Larson, Joe Iacono, and A.M. Allan of GBK are putting in the work. So, we respectfully ask that you become more than just readers of the GBK words, but make some noise.

This 2023 recruiting class is special, but as you can see, Coach Monken and the staff are not just sitting around .... the 2024 recruiting is already taking form, spring ball was a success (combine that with the solid S&C program and there are tons of things to get excited about.

So as the folks at NIKE might say...

1984 Army Football Team

Since I think The 12th Knight is the best forum on Army Football, thanks to its staff, writers, and readers; I thought we would have a little fun this week to start the build-up to Navy Week and the BKs victory over the Middies.

What are some facts, things, or items about the 1984 Army Football Team that every USMA graduate or West Point fan ought to know about?

(try not to repeat anything, but you may correct something if needed)

I’ll start with the easiest one:

First Army Football Team to go to and win a bowl game.

Bowl Eligibility

Well, 79 FBS teams qualified for 41 bowl games this weekend for 82 slots (winning six or more games).

One team, Navy remains at 5-6 and would be bowl eligible with a potential victory over Army.

Per NCAA guidelines, James Madison and Jacksonville State (transitioning to FBS) get in next. After that, 5-7 teams are eligible per their Academic Progress Rate (APR).

Most sports writers are reporting that Minnesota would be the first 5-7 team in as they have the highest APR of 5-7 teams. Next 5-7 teams in APR order are Mississippi State, South Carolina, and 5-6 Army West Point.

Some writers are claiming that the Army-Navy game does not count for bowl selections. This has been unclear since A-N became the last game of the regular season many years ago.

I think the NCAA may have to come out on this during this week, on whether or not bowl selections consider Navy or not. This might open Army up for a bowl given that the BKs can beat the Middies, and a 6-6 team (5-6 per bowl eligibility) would have a better record than Minnesota.
