The Inside Stuff Great GBK/Rivals News!

The Rivals app has launched.

For Android users, it could be available in the Google Play Store as soon as this afternoon. When I get a link, I will share it. The approval process from Apple takes a bit longer than Google, so iOs users are likely to have to wait just a bit longer than those with a Droid.

This will be a free app. When you sign in with your Rivals account info, I believe it will automatically take you to your "home site," in this case GoBlackKnights.com (it worked for me).

However, there is certainly also a search tool and a selection menu where you can choose the site you wish to view. So you can read the board here, but also see stories on any of the other Rivals sites you want to. In addition, the app will allow the PM staff to send push notifications (I'm sure as with any app you can opt not to receive them). This will replace the antiquated, virtually non-functional text message service that many had problems getting anyway. We certainly won't use it for every story, but if we have big stories, breaking news, commitments, etc, we have the ability now to send a push notification through your Rivals app with something along the lines of "Breaking News: Army just picked up a commitment from an in-state offensive lineman. Click here to see the story..."

There will be some bugs, I'm sure it won't work perfectly on day one and I'm sure some will dislike some things about it, but I personally am very happy that Rivals has an app.

GBK Recruiting Update: DB, Elijah Riley

The talented DB will have a home visit from the Army coaching staff this late afternoon/early evening, including head coach Jeff Monken and we anticipate Riley’s decision to be forthcoming early this evening, so stay tuned.

If he says yes to Army ... it would be a very good under the radar pick up for the Black Knights’ 2016 recruiting class.

The Inside Stuff GBK: Inside the Mailbox

We are constantly receiving emails or even inside message through this site and always encourage the sender to post their questions on the 12th Knight message board and we will do our best to respond and do some promptly.

I did receive one just the other day regarding the possibility of Tony Coaxum returning back to Army to fill the cornerback coach vacancy spot, and I thought it would be a good time to “reopen” our ‘The Mailbox’ feature for the balance of the day.

Hence, you the fans can ask the GBK about the program (e.g., players, recruiting, etc.) and we will do our best to answer.

Back to Coaxum:

Personally speaking, I think former Army cornerback coach Tony Coaxum, currently with the Denver Broncos would jump at the opportunity to return to his alma mater (where he played CB) if approached by Head Coach Jeff Monken.

Coaxum hanging with this son

To my knowledge that hasn’t happen and at this juncture, I don’t that it will.

Some my ask why would Coaxum even consider leaving the NFL for college and that’s a fair point. So, allow me to add my thoughts.

If you know TC, which I do, he is a committed and loyal gentleman, who loves everything about Army West Point. So, returning would not surprise me if that opportunity were to ever surface.

Secondly, he is always forward thinking and down the road, he sees himself beyond a positional coach, but someday as a head coach somewhere.

That is why he recently interviewed with Vanderbilt as their Special Teams Coordinator. Although, he was next in line for the gig, Vandy decided to take in a more experience person for the role. Why Vandy? Simple ... SEC football and if you look at the last 10 (2006-2015) National Champions in college football here’s how that stakes up.

  • 2015 - Alabama
  • 2012 - Alabama
  • 2011 - Alabama
  • 2010 - Auburn
  • 2009 - Alabama
  • 2007 - LSU
The level of competition on a weekly basis is unmatched in any conference in America and that in itself would only enhance someone’s resume.

Shifting gears for a moment.

Coaxum’s classmate and teammate Reno Ferri who's been at Towson the last several years was just hired to coach TEs at Syracuse.

3-star QB Lindsey Scott has decommitted from Cuse!

We had offered him awhile back, but I am not sure if we stopped recruiting him once he committed to Syracuse, but I was wondering if we are on him now.

It looks like Maryland just offered him and Rutgers’ new staff is on him as well. Ash is their new head coach and it appears that Rutgers is moving away from their traditional pro-style offense and looking to have more of a spread option which Ohio State runs.

GBK, any word on Scott?
