What is lacking with this team?

1, I don't see any on the field leadership at all. Although I am not actually on the field.
2. Defensively, we don't have any game changers (e.g., Broughton, Carter, Arik Smith, Christiansen, Rilely and the list goes on).
3. Thatcher is not using the talent he has in a manner that makes a difference. Mr. Robinson barely touches the ball and we don't see JB at all anymore.

The Inside Stuff Official Army-UMass (10/28) Game Prediction Thread

Yes, there is a GBK thread (GBK: Predicting Army Black Knights' 2023 Campaign) whereby Joe Iacono gives his prediction of the upcoming season, which kicked off on 9/2.

And yes, here we are again (aka Déjà vu ) where the Black Knights are coming off of back-to-back games where they have been shut out and combine that with Saturday's contest that saw #19 LSU put up 62 points .... the upcoming game at Michie Stadium against UMass is more than a must win - it is a crucial must win for the program.

But then again, we have been saying over the past several weeks that “This weekend’s game is a “must win” for the Black Knights ... plain & simple. Coach Monken and the staff, along with the players can not afford to lose 5 games in a row.

With being said, chime in with your prediction for Saturday's upcoming contest.

Name 5 plays from yesterday's game that had you shaking your head!

I am not even going to go back and look at the game, but here are at least 5 plays (in no particular order) by the Army that left me #SMH.
  1. Cooper Allan's 4-yard punt
  2. Harris pitching to Robinson when the RB is one foot away from the sidelines
  3. Daily fumbling inside the UMass 5-yard line
  4. UMass special team catching us off guard and causing Cooper to panic and try to run versus punt
  5. Daily missing open receivers or just chucking the ball anywhere.

Where do we go from here?

I don't normally post on the day of a game. But I can't help it this time. I am really discouraged. We are not a good football team. In fact, most good FCS teams would beat us. I am not all worked up because we lost to LSU... I expected that. I am discouraged because I have not seen an Army team like this since before Coach Monken arrived. We are flat out bad. Coach Monken took a gamble on the installation of this new offense, and the change out of OCs. It has not worked... at all.

I am not sure where we go from here. But I am extremely worried that Army will enter another period of wandering in the wilderness. Somebody please talk me off the ledge.

Monken Mindset

I’m puzzled! Coming into this season, I was very concerned that we were installing a new offense and starting a new QB. However, as we went through summer camp, the overall vibe coming out was a positive one. My impression, maybe wrong, was that Coach seemed relatively positive about how the transition was going. Looking forward to the season. As I hung onto his words in every post practice/scrimmage briefing, I was expecting to hear the typical Monken assessment, “ We got to get a lot better! If the season were to start today, we’re in trouble.” These have been the typical opinions express by Coach in prior years. He even expressed multiple times that he really liked this team, and the senior leadership. With that feedback, I was feeling more hopeful, maybe optimistic. Am I alone is sensing a more positive Monken coming to the season than in the past? If not, I am very puzzled why the optimism, especially given the way the season has gone? Was Coache’s calibration on the real talent, discipline , execution off that much? Why didn’t he see this coming?

The Inside Stuff OT: Ken Kraetzer and his wife Kerri

For those of you who don’t know the name Ken Kraetzer ... just a great guy, who has been covering Army football, the United States Military Academy at West Point and other venues associated with the Armed Services for years.

Yesterday evening, posted the following message on social media and needless to say, my family and I will be keeping his wife in prayer, along with Ken himself.

“It's been a bad couple of days, my darling, beautiful wife Kerri Kraetzer was hit by a car while running early Wednesday AM in White Plains. She has a serious head injury …

… Not sure what the next few days will bring, it's a nightmare, appreciate everyone's kind thoughts and prayers,

Ken

The Inside Stuff GBK Friday Flashback: Predicting Army Football’s 2023 Campaign

We aren’t saying that GBK’s Joe Iacono is any Nostradamus, but in his pre-season prediction surrounding the Army Black Knights 2023 season, he has not been far off base.

Let’s take a look back at Joe’s prediction and have you chime in on where he is on point and/or off point.

SUCKS!

The fact that the Army-Navy Game is being played at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, SUCKS.

But then again, it probably is a reflection of the season that both programs are having, which is SUCKS like hell.

Oh, did I also mention that both teams now play in the SUCKY AAC Conference?

Next, you will be telling me that Army is moving away from its traditional triple-option offense, hiring a new offensive coordinator and more RPO style of offense.

If that were to happen, I would tell you that our program is going backward.

Hats Off To Frosh QB Champ Harris!

Honestly, I don't know if Harris is our future at QB - there are other up-and-coming quarterbacks in our system and perhaps in due season they will flourish - who knows? But here is what I know or should I say what I observed on Saturday. Young Mr. Harris, although he didn't light it up on Saturday, what he did do was play the #19 team in the country in LSU, a team that Coach Monken said in his press conference yesterday was the best team he had EVER faced and they looked like an NFL team. Not only that, it was on the road in front of 102k+ LOUD A$$ Tiger Fans and on National TV.

Perhaps Harris was nervous, but it didn't show at least from his facial expressions or body language. For me, that says something.

Defense

I think I’m more disappointed in our Defense than Offense in yesterdays game. While i don’t like w here we are on O, our games planning on D is not helping us. It is clear to me our philosophy on as D is not to give up the big play, keep everything in front; however, we put zero pressure on QBs and make bad QBs look great. Our op opponents extend the field and they run the ball 8 yards as pop. We need to be much aggressive and put a little pressure on the other offense. It’s like we are playing 7 on 7 shell drill to be honest.
